It's not true. It's just players chatting about WoW and their wishful thinking. Probably overheard in a break room somewhere.
priests can't wear plate, and never will be able to, but the hero classes wear plate, and (not sure if I'm correct but I hope I am) priests can go through a series of quests to become their own hero class

The priest won't change into the hero class. Blizzard stated that the quest will unlock the hero class (SK for now) but the toon that did so will still be playable on their own.

Woot, an old EQ player :) Although the "EQ-Priests" are quite different, I got a hard time imagining my self wearing plate atm :p
Think I read somewhere someone saying something about priests wearing plate, and to be honest, I don't think he was very serious.

Hell yea! we will have plate !
And can shoot shadowbolts from our ***** while we are instant healing the entire team for 10k of life.
Plus we will also be able to dual wield maces and use guns instead of wands.
This is gonna be awesome!
PS..i also think shadowfiend will be a permanent pet with more dps then now.
