Can someone point me to a place where there is a guide on BG and arena. Im 38 now and havent been in one. By reading the forums here I understand that the rewards are worth the effort in participating in them.

But I dont want to go in without knowing what to do there and being useless.

You can only do Arena at level 70.
But for both Arena and BG, the rewards are very much worth it.

Start at www.worldofwarcraft.com (under Game Guide -> Player vs. Player) for basic information.

Now that im 39 (10% of 40) what should I do.

Go do BG for PVP rewards or continue levelling (with the benefir of getting my mount). Are the rewards in that level that good to justify doing BG?
All this time I havent been bothering buying armour from the AH, everything I have are quest rewards or crafted items made by friends.

keep pvping at 39 mate, do the RFD quest: Bring The End from Andrew Brownell in Undercity (for horde), or the archbishop in SW cathedral (for alliance). great sword reward: Vanquisher's Sword, then pvp with it for a while to get ur honor and marks up.

I would suggest getting one piece of armor from ab for that level. it will last you until outlands with the benefit of having a permanent + 7?8% speed bonus.

if you want the general tactics for winning battlegrounds for that level .
both battlegrounds
1. Focus on getting flags.
2. Focus on keeping your flags.
3. opponent kills/deaths are nice to see and nice to touch. they don't win you games so much.

and finally it's simply focusing on the game objectives rather than getting caught up in attacking allied for the fun of it.

For WSG.

there are 3 general strategies for this game.

1. balanced attack 3-4 players /turtling 5-8 players
Roughly 3-8 people stay within the general area of your flag room to guard the flag. the rest go up in one group and assault the opponent's flag room.

2. bait and switch.
this focuses on a group of people from your team entering their flag room. then running out with the flag and the opponents chasing them. 1-2 other players comes in from one of the alternate entrances and waits by the flag as the opponents have too great a group to not slaughter your initial team. this person will pick up the flag and make a run for it while the opponents are occupied with finishing off the initial attackers. it's a general strategy when the opponents utilize the turtling method or are heavily geared in relation to your team.

3 center defense.
all your team go together in a single group and occupy the center of the battlegrounds. slaughtering any opponent that attempts to assault your position and the few flag carriers who make it through and on their way back to their base with your flag. utilize either the entire group as a single entity to run into their flag room for their flag or a few other players to attempt to sneak in and get the flag close enough for the main group to assist.

AB.
there are few strategies but simple advice for the game.
Advice

1. LOOK A UFO!!. pull defenders away from heavily/lightly defended flags with a few players so another character can come from an alternate angle to hit the flag. a distracted enemy can also be left alone while you hit their flag. I can't count the number of times I hit a flag while the defender was clipping his fingernails or similar. only realizing he lost his flag from the sound a lost flag makes rather than realizing he's under attack if I was to physically menace him.

2. 1 + 1 = 15?. If there are 10 opponents at one flag and there are 3 flags they control. how many players are there at the other 2 flags...

3. I killed everyone and I lost?. you win from gathering resources from occupying and controlling flags not from killing the opposition.

4. Return of the dead!!! or attrition. 3 players can hold of 8-10 equally geared players off their flag position by maintaining their flag. after all any player who dies resurrects within 30 seconds. while any one of them who dies takes 30 seconds and a bus ride to get back.

as a rogue I've stayed in stealth mode as my partners died. kept the enemy from capping until they resurrect, (at which point I usially die from the enemy dog piling me) and I'll take the next resurrection while my partners pile on them with full health & mana. Meanwhile the enemy had spent x mana & healt while attacking and being attacked by us.

5. I KILLED EVERYONE.. but I don't have more honor?.. you get honor from assisting people to kill the opponent or from killing the opponent. not solely from being the one to deal the last blow. The last blow is just to look nice on the scoreboard A person who did 30 last blows may not have more honor gained than the healer who had 0. (usially I find the healers had more)
