Now What? I didn't do all that runnin' around stickin pigs to be hunter with no pet.
You can just abandon the quest and get it again, along with the new rod? Might need to destroy old one.
Have you actually done the quest ?
Cause IIRC the pet you tame with that rod expires after 10 mins or so and disappears.
If you have hit 'P' for spell book, then select the Beast mastery tab, then find the tame beast button. Find a beast thats the same level as you and tame it.

I was on third leg of quest. I find new stick in bag. I take old stick and make DESTROYED! Catch scorpid. I did these things.
Sounds to me like your going to have to abandon the questa nd start it again.
