Grouping QuestionFollow

Hey guys,

Well I have been soloing quite often and duoin with friends, but just havent had the time or the need to group yet. I was looking for just some advice from you players who group quite often and are well versed with this game to chime in with your set up/dialog during groups. When I group I know from my EQ days as a shaman, we announced slows/CC's etc, and had macros set up to let our group know what the heck we were doin. But at the same time, there was a lot of "needless" spam of some spells. What do you guys announce or have hotkeyed while your in groups? Better yet, I also wouldnt mind seeing some set ups of hotkeys for groups. I had a page dedicated to groups, one for raids and one for just soloing and stuff in my old game, and I wouldnt mind having the same kind of set up with WoW. I know its everyones own cup of tea how they choose to have this set up, but I was just looking to see what other Hunters in WoW are using and saying in groups. Even some pics of your layout would be helpful. I consider myself a HUGE HUGE newbie to this world, and I'd hate to announce it to the first group I get into. Do we announce when we are in the process of CC'n and such. Feel free to flame the newbie, its my first post, but I can take it! I looked through a lot of the threads and just havent seen this brought up. Just looking for your guy's expertise.

The trick for CCing and such in groups is to communicate early. As soon as you enter the instance, you ask the groupleader to mark the Trap mob and make sure it is the same mark every time you need to trap something. Let's say Square is the trap mob for every pull. Once you have that out of the way, you don't really need to announce anything. Just do your job and make sure you pull that mob to a trap in every pull. Your group will most likely trust you to do that.

The only announce macro I might have would be in level 70 instances (Heroics), for when the trap breaks early and I for some reason don't have another ready. I don't remember the exact macro, but it is just the standard "/p Trap mob is lose" warning. In any other instance, you should just be able to tank the mob until the trap CD is over with, then drop a new trap.

WoW is quite forgiving. To be perfectly honest, only smacktards can manage to ruin a group if you exclude the odd mistake. Just fUck up a few times, and you'll learn what you shouldn't have done. And the party can go on, and probably won't have lost more than some pocketchange in repairbills.

Other classes though, might be more prone to announcing CC. And that is more of a raid thing, to be honest. Warlocks banishing/enslaving elementals and demons usually have addons that take care of announcing the CC and the timer on the relevant CC.

If you want to be a good CCer in a group, I suggest practicing. Go find a camp with a few mobs in it, or just one mob at a time. Lay a trap, wait for the CD to get over with, and pull the mob. See how long you can manage to keep it chaintrapped. Or, try to trap two mobs at the same time. It can be done by waiting with the pull until the trap CD is over with. Once a mob is trapped, immediately drop another. Voila, two mobs trapped. Pet-tank a third and kill a fourth. And so on. Once you can clear equal level camps of mobs, you should be more than adequate CC for an instance.

And I'd like to stress this once more: Communication in the beginning is alpha and omega for a group. Immediately let the groupleader know that you would like the trap target marked with [insert favourite mark variant here] and that caster/ranged mobs are ******* to trap. Also, if there are more than one CC in the group (let's say you have a mage with you as well), you should make sure you have a set kill order. Let's say you kill the tank target, then the trapped mob, and lastly the Sheeped mob. Keep everyone on the same page.

And don't be discouraged if people don't want you to be CC. Alot of people underestimate a Hunter's capabilities, and will know better once you keep mobs off your healer and your pet takes care of a loose mob.

Thank you sir, appreciate the quick repsonse. Good advice that I will have to take advantage of. Looking forward to grouping and not being a "Huntard" as I see that you all call some!
