I didn't imply a hunters role in a raid, I was talking about how actual raiding isn't some zerg fest that requires almost no skill that you implied. As for Hunters role on raid, we aren't just "dps" there are raids that require us to CC, also quite a bit of raids make use of our misdirect, that role might seem kinda meh but is actually kinda important. At least you aren't a water dispenser or a rogue.

I find it sad that I'm doing all this work to better my CC and teamwork and in the end I'm just going to be planting and doing a shot rotation in those big raids. Kind of turns us into physical damage dealing mages with cute pets doesn't it? ^_^

I definitely wouldn't say you're wasting time improving your CC skills. Raids are only one aspect of end-game play. There is also a lot of time spent running 5-mans (including heroics), in which CC is really a big part. So, you'll have plenty of opportunity to shine and use your range of skills.

Keep in mind that raids tend to channel each class/spec into a narrower role. The larger the group, the more narrowly defined your role becomes. Each player becomes a part of the larger entity, with less need for crossing roles. CC opportunities aren't completely absent for a hunter, they are just less frequent in raids.

An aside...a big reason, in my opinion, that hunter CC is not used as much in raids is the fact that it isn't as reliable and has inherent drawbacks. It has nothing to do with the individual hunter, so much as it has to do with the mechanics of hunter CC. I'll compare it to a mage's sheeping, just for an example; hunter CC is inferior in several ways. It fails more, it takes longer to recast (re-sheep is near instant, trap is 30-sec), and it doesn't have the range (sheeping can be done anywhere in range, vs. a trap that needs to be sprung). So, in a bigger raid group, when it comes time to assign CC, the hunter is obviously going to be less desirable than using the mage.

Anyway, off topic there, but I wanted to follow up on Sloshot's comment.

Cheers.
