Need help on a build x.xFollow

#1 Oct 06 2007 at 10:02 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, so I'm a Combat Rogue. I use daggers, but I don't really like to use Backstab often. I'm not 70 yet, but this is the build I'm thinking about ending up with. I'm sort of a nub on talents, and don't really understand why people wouldn't go with Blade Twisting, to be honest. It seems something decent to use in PvP.

I'm not much of a Slice and Dice user, but if it's recommended, then why not? :| I don't use Kick much, as it's not really my kind of thing, and I don't use Sprint as I already have a mount, and impairing effects aren't that much of a problem to me.

I used to be a sword lover, but after finding a really sweet dagger from Naxx, I decided to change. And using a dagger and sword was awkward for me, I went with the dagger I found in Naxx and any dagger I can find from a quest reward or something.

This is my build though. IMO, Murder doesn't look much and would probably not make much of a difference IMO. Please, don't flame or critcize x.x I'm not very good on talents, and I choose whatever I think is good. Constructive criticism pl0x.

you're a dagger rogue and you don't like to backstab...

whoa dude, this is just like me! I'm a priest, but I don't cast spells, I don't like it when my mana gets low. I just melee sh*t. If blizzard didn't want us to do this, they would clearly not give us inner fire...

on second thought, I'm not even going to go through all of the things you don't get. theo, all yours, make this entertaining please?

Well, I could use Backstab, but I find it to be more used when in a party and you have a tanker. That, or I'm just a noob Rogue who quests and kills things and does random things.

And well, if I could, I'm trying to find a good pair of swords. I do like crit a lot, so I may or may not use swords again. :|

Wow......Where do I begin?

You do realize that the damage you do sinister striking with a dagger is laughable?

If you don't like backstabbing go swords (either combat or Hemo). Combat daggers is probably the hardest build to level/grind/pvp with. It's a raiding build, and that's all it's good at. If you insist on using daggers try a Mutilate build, which is much better at PVP and grinding.

If you don't like to backstab, at the very least get rid of your daggers and get some swords..... and for the love of God, read the damn stickies.

One more thing.

I just looked at your talent build. A dagger rogue with no imp backstab and/or no opportunity = you lose. 5/5 in lightening reflexes = lol.

Read the stickies.

Well, actually, I don't have the slightest idea where to get a good easy get sword. I could ask my guildies for help, but the problem is that there is another Rogue who would just copy off me, making there be competition.

For the daggers, I'm using Harbringer of Doom and Dib'Muad's Crysknife :|

I have a question. Not that i want to hijack but... here :

I'm 25. i use 2 daggers with sinister/BS ( i just saw the guy that said sinister with dagger is laughable.. lol ). I bought a Black knight sword ( level 26 blue one ) , if i use in main hand, and dagger with 1.30 offhand, with the proc-damage poison , will my sinister/DPS still be laughable ? Considering i proc more with a fast weap, i figured having a dagger in offhand isnt that bad of an idea... or sinister strike counts both weapon for damage somehow ?.. Might as well get enlightened a bit... !

Elaborating on what Slyyth posted, you seem to be going for some variation of a combat dagger build. Besides the fact that your planned build is full of holes, it is effectively useless outside of raids. Knowing this, if for some reason you are still set on that kind of build, you may want to go with:

Otherwise, if you are looking for a dagger build that has pve/pvp merit, you might want to consider combat mutilate:

(Again this is essentially what Slyyth wrote, but with examples of ideal builds courtesy of Damea's review)

Well, build could use a bit of work. I do admire you for molding it to your playstyle though.

In all honesty you need some of those talents you skipped if you are shooting for PvP (from your post thats what Im guessing you are aiming for)

Lets see, in the assassination tree: Remorseless isnt really for pvp so lets ditch that. I would take imp BS over evisc any day. Lethality is just awesome, and it helps negate some of the resillience end game.

Up next, the combat tree: Lightning reflexes is really for the 19/29 twinks. Endurance isnt really the best, imp sprint is a bit better IMO. Riposte is debateable. Blade twisting, is not nearly as good as crippling. Weapon expertise is only really for raid PvE. Nerves of steel>Vitality for pvp.

All that being said, I would suggest This

Thats just me. A few different placements might be in order, but thats just me. You may want to reconsider some of the things you dont use (kick is a must against casters and BS is good burst damage)

Edit: fixed the link

Sinister strike is an attack that adds to your weapons damage. Let's look at two weapons (these are the ones that I just barely replaced).

[wowitem=19040]Zorbin's Mega-Slicer[/wowitem]
One-HandSword
46 - 86 DamageSpeed 2.30
(28.7 damage per second)
+6 Agility
+5 Stamina

[wowitem=15216]Rune Sword of the Tiger[/wowitem]
Rune Sword of the Tiger
One-HandSword
34 - 63 DamageSpeed 1.60
(30.3 damage per second)
+6 Agility
+6 Strength

Now you'll notice the dps is pretty close. One is 30.3 and the other is 28.7. I have the Zorbin slicer on my main hand even though its dps is lower. The reason is because the damage is 46-86 compared to the rune sword of 34-63. This means my sinister strikes will hit harder Zorbin. The damage speed is higher and this makes the dps lower. The faster rune sword is used in the off-hand for more poison and potency procs.

For a combat build people say to put a slow hander in your main and a fast off hand sword. This is a little misleading. What you're actually looking for in a main hand is a higher dmg number. If you had two swords with equal dmg but different weapon speeds the faster one is the one you'd want to take. Your dps would increase and your attacks like sinister strike would still hit the same slow or fast. The reason they say a slow main hand is because Blizzard will normally put a higher dmg weapon with a slower speed. This is to balance out the dps of two different swords of the same lvl. So yes look at the speed of a weapon but don't forget to compare the dmg part of it because that's where it will make the most difference.

Allright. Sounds good. So i guess taking a good damage sword in main, and a Low-Delay dagger in offhand is not that bad of an idea, until i get enough talents to boost ONE kind of weapon deeply into a tree. ( correct me if i am wrong ! )
