I've noticed a few hunters with Elite pets, meaning their pet still had the gold dragon frame and its original name (Humar, King B, etc). Is this some kind of hack?
I recently tamed Skitterfang, an elite spider from Terrokar forest, but after taming it just became "spider" like any other pet.

Well, taming an elite beast is do-able, but them still having the dragon around their portraits? This I have never seen in all my year and a bit of wow. When I tamed King B, he lost his name and his elitedom. This has me confused. As soon as the beast is tamed, their dragon should dissapear. This is quite wierd, possibly a bug or something along those lines.
Pet were normalized a while back

now they are all the same speed and same basic class stats once you tame them. If they were elite before they arn't after the taming. although a hunter could catch humar and name it humar, it still would loose it's dragon around the portrait

I've seen it on 2 hunter pets only recently myself, both on the Dalvynger server. I'm assuming its a hack of some kind, as I had never seen it before.
It's not a hack. It's just an UI bug. Their pets aren't any more powerful than other pets at all.

I tamed elite silver windserpent in Feralas and I ran around with her quite a while, got to loyalty 3 actually I think.
Then I went to Tanaris to show it to my friend. It was sort of "surprise, wont tell you what it is lemme show you".
I got there, he was questing among ogres and after proper admiring my beauty he asked me why she still has elite frame and what does Arash-ethis mean... though I renamed her the moment I got her.
On my screen everything was fine but he could still see her elite frame and original name. After he relogged it all went normal.
So its not hack but your UI bug.
