Remember that the sticky is over a year out-of-date now. With the addition of TBC, builds have completely changed. And consider that the pre-raid psuedo-sticky is not what acexcanes needs, because he's going to be soloing a lot (where pet survivability is as important as pet DPS). So there really isn't a sticky that could easily help him. Honestly, if the sticky gets updated to the point where it has current builds and detailed pet information, then maybe it can be considered something to send people to for this type of question.
With that being said, I'll break down each tier for you ace.
Tier 1: For levelling you want to get endurance training. It helps a lot, especially on PvP servers. Your pet is your tank until 70 (and at 70, still will be a lot of the time). Once you hit raiding, you want IAotH for DPS, but until then I'd stick with endurance training.
Tier 2: Ignore Imp AotM. You should rarely use AotM so improving it wont help you. I'd put 3/3 thick hide and 2/2 imp revive pet, because Focus-Fire really helps your Kill Command, which you wont get until level 66.
Tier 3: Pathfinder may make you run faster, and BS may make your pet run faster, but here I would go for damage-damage-damage. Pick up 5/5 unleashed fury and just be sure to get a pet with dash (to either train to your old pet or just keep the new pet) when you hit level 32.
Tier 4: I'd start with 2/2 imp mend pet and then go 3/5 ferocity. You'll get great bonuses out of imp MP, and ferocity is nice. But you don't need 5/5 until you can unlock tier 6.
Tier 5: Intimidation, then beastial discipline, then fill up ferocity. Spirit Bond is considered mildly useful by some and completely useless by others. Ferocity, BD, and intimidate are considered essential. Go with the essentials.
Tier 6: go with 4/5 frenzy, then put 1 point into animal handler. When you get your mount at the next level, that 1 point will really help.
From there, just be sure to pick up Beastial Wrath, put 4 more points into tiers 6 and 7 of the BM tree (I'd recommend 2/2 Animal Handler and 3/3 Catlike Reflexes to greatly increase your pets survivability). FI is good, but I'd prefer the others for a solo build.
Tier 8: Serpent's Swiftness is a must. If you go BM without it, that's like getting a ferrari with a VW bug engine.
Tier 9: TBW, another prime choice.
That will get you to level 50, and you should look something like: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cV0G0gxRwzAo
Although if you mix it up you could go http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=cV0GzgxRVuVo and it would still work.
Anyway, you can ask questions from there, but that will help you for a while. Good luck, and enjoy your hunter.
