Hello.

I read the sticky, but couldn't really find any information on how to further upgrade my pets Claw and Bite.

I had a wolf at first, which just sucked since it had no abilities other than growl. I then read somewhere that a Ghostclaw Lynx from Ghostlands had both Bite AND Claw, which seems like an excellent Focus dump since I have 2/2 in that ability that grants my pet 100% focus gain.

My question, however remains: How do I further upgrade my pets Claw and Bite? The rank is soon 20 levels old, and it bugs me greatly. (I'm 34 by the way).

Thanks in advance,
Nicky.

You have to tame a pet with a higher rank of that ability, then fight using that new pet to get the higher ranked ability(it will give you a message saying You have learned Bite rank5). Go to Petopia's website to see which pets to tame that have the higher ranked abilities you need to learn.

Yeah, Petopia and other hunter sites will give you all the information you need. You can expect to spend considerable time traveling the world just to find the right animals to tame in order to learn all the available pet-derived skills. And I do recommend you learn them all, even going back to lower level areas in order to learn those lower level skills missed along the way.

I thought bite and claw were 'ubiquitous' skills and are trained upgrades from the pet trainers? As long as you have at least level 1 in trainable ability, the pet trainers should be able to upgrade you shouldn't they?

Nope, higher level pet-derived skills must be learned from higher level animals. Learning a level 1 pet-derived skill from an animal does NOT then cause the higher levels of that skill to automagically become available from the trainers. You MUST find a higher level animal that knows the higher level pet-derived skill and tame it in order to learn that skill.

Bite and claw are amongst the very first group of pet-derived skills, dating back to the beta version of the game.
