Since the conversation reminded me of this let me ask...
When I was a kid I used to watch the XMEN cartoon. I was always curious about the kid with the cards... Used to shoot fireworks or sparklers out her sleeve or something... Gambitt I believe? What exactly was her ability?

Could turn ordinary objects into explosives. Playing cards just added a gimmick factor.
Edit: Fireworks out the sleeves, etc is a different person, too; Jubilee.

Naw, I prefer the real heroes, not just the overpowered "look I can fly and shoot laserbeams with my eyes!" kind of crap. Batman. Rorschach. Spider Jerusalem. Dream and Death. The Swamp Thing. All of them feels like they could exist out there somewhere. They had personalities and issues anyone could recognize. X-Men? Bunch of wusses and overdone cliches.

QFT. Nobody gives crap to Batsy! He's been screwed around in the media but he's an awesome SOB.
And, while he's not strictly a superhero, I've always loved Deadpool. A smart-mouthed mercenary that just won't shut up, even if he's in a death trap that comes closer to killing him with every word he speaks? That's pure win, my friends!
Plus, he kicked the Incredible Hulk's ***.
