No... Hell no... It does not make sense at all. How would that raidleader know anything about what kind of Gear Cal had lying around in his bank? Or in his inventory? Or if he even wanted a set for that specc? You never, never, just throw an item at someone because they might have a use for it. You ask first. If it isn't needed, you disenchant it. That's all there is to it.
No discussion needed.
In a PUG run, the notion of sharding an epic would never occur to me. I think it would be totally reasonable that the ML would see an epic that only one person in the raid would have any use for and give it to them. Even if the first thing that went through his head when he saw Caldone's roll for the T4 token was, "Oh ****...I've made a mistake," what's done is done. Imagine how thoroughly outraged the
others in the group might have been seeing Caldone walk away with an epic
and a T4 token from the same fight.
I'm not saying what the ML did was right about giving Caldone the shoulders. That's the ***** with BoP. I'm saying if you look at it from the proper angle, it's entirely conceivable that the ML was just trying to be fair to everyone, and getting all in a huff over it and leaving might not have been the most sage option. Again, it probably would have been better to ride it out for a while longer and see what happens if something dropped that the person with the new T4 token could use as well. Would they be excluded from eligibility too?
**** happens. People make mistakes. Getting angry about it and leaving after the first "offense" when there is a far less offensive perspective to be held probably wasn't such a good idea.
Maybe it's because up to this point I only have two purples on my toon. It just doesn't make sense to me that a situation like that could get someone so riled up (in a PUG, no less) that he'd ***** over 8 other people by leaving in order to voice his disapproval over the actions of one. I've left groups in the middle of this or that scenario before, but not because of one person. There has to be widespread idiocy throughout the group before I'll ditch them.
