Question about a GlyphFollow

I just upgraded my helm, yay! Eternium Greathelm FINALLY dropped for us. So, I have it socketed and now I have to Glyph it, but I'm having a hard time deciding on what I should Glyph it with. Should I go with Defender (16 Defense/17 Dodge) which is what I have been using, get Outcast (17 Strength/16 Intellect), or go with Power (22 spell damage and healing/14 spell hit)?

To make it easy, my stats currently without a glyph (that would affected by one of those Glyphs) are:

- 501 Defense and 103.32% avoidance with Holy Shield, 14.03% is Dodge.
- 227 Strength and 161 Intellect (5088 mana pool).
- 245 bonus damage/healing.

So, I'm still uncrittable and uncrushable and I have a good amount of spell damage. Wanna spend what little money I have wisely :)

Oh, is there something else that can be placed on a Helm that would be good to get? If so, let me know :)

EDIT: added my Mana Pool.

resists are always nice to have.

I would start adding spell damage. Resists are nice, but that area is really wide. No one will dislike you having a higher threat ceiling.

Thanks for the replies, I was kinda leaning toward the spell damage Glyph myself. I haven't yet, but I will go buy that soon, unless someone comes on here, posts, and talks me into a different one before I remember to buy it ;)

Oh, while I'm celebrating new stuff: I bought the plans for Boots of the Protector, got it made, and slapped a 12 Stamina enchant on it, woot! :D I is a happy Paly!

Go for the spell damage!

Since I went holy and my guild already has a tankadin, I'm going to live vicariously through you Maulgak.

Outcast is by far the worst of the bunch. If you're running into threat problems then I'd consider the Power glyph, but the Defender Glyph grants you 1.71% avoidance (combined miss/parry/dodge) and will give you a bit more flexibility with additional gear choices by putting you a bit further away from the uncrushable point.

Doesn't necessarily have to be threat problems in order for him to want to buff up his spell damage. More spell damage = higher threat ceiling = more raid dps.

However... more times you dodge the more times you miss all damage, though smaller threat ceiling as you aren't reflecting HS that round.

All of this is marginal at best, but should be considered.

personally, i would go with defender. that way your not locked into gear when you find something that is much better in all respects save either defense rating or avoidance.

anyone find any problems with lack of threat because of too much dodge/parry? how bout lack of +hit/+spell hit? i imagine there is a comparison chart somewhere of the effects on pally threat by means of all the augmented stats. i'm curious to see what would have generally greater effects.

All very good points. I think I have changed my mind and will go for the Defender one as that may allow me to swap some things out in favor of more Stamina which is what I am needing the most. Being so far behind our MT Warrior makes me sad :( Though, he does have a couple pieces more then I do, of Kara gear.

I consider this a great honor /bow

EDIT: couple typos.

To be honest.... the mana pool is a bit low... and while Im not a big fan of the outcast glyph... I'd take that for now until you get some gear to give you more mana without sacrificing other tanking abilities. You can't tank anything if you have no mana.... and while you will be getting tons of heals and mana from spiritual attunement... remember the +int also slightly increases spell damage and spell crit..... so overall I would probably go with that for now.

No it doesnt, int does nothing for your spell damage/healing unless you are Holy, which he is not. It will increase his spell crit chance by a very small amount.

The outcast one is by far the worst one to grab, and in long fights he isn't going to go oom, and in short ones, they are too short to matter much if he goes oom.

Aye Jack, very true. The increase to my spell crit would be miserable, as is my spell crit anyway, so that wasn't even a factor in considering a Glyph. And the only time I am ever hurting for mana are certain fights where I am not "actively" tanking something: ie Moroes when he is focused on the other tank, Attumen in phase 3 (the Warrior takes him), etc.. While a larger mana pool would be nice, it's not completely necessary. And when I throw on my healing set, I'm not using my tank helm anyways as I have a Mask of Penance, so moot there.

I was trying to weigh a slightly higher threat ceiling, slightly higher mana pool for a bit more spamming of spells, and slightly higher avoidance to see what would open up the most options for upgrading my gear, and decided with your points the Defender Glyph would do that best. Now I can swap out some of my "hybrid" gems for pure Stamina if I want, and still be uncrush/critable. Now the question I'll be faced with is if/when Shield of Impenetrable Darkness drops, do I take it over my Crest of the Sha'tar? Crest will have more Stamina if I replace the gems, but a bit less armor/avoidance >.> Grr
