Hey everyone, I am new to WoW. I have recently joined and I am a human priest, level 4. I really don't understand the specializations. I know that you can choose between discipline, holy, and shadow. I have been trained once by the trainer, and I chose a discipline spell because its all the money I had. Could you tell me the difference in each of the specializations? Do you just specialize in one or do you specialize in two? I have only healed my friend just once but I really like to battle as well. Any information will be appreciated :)

The specializations are mainly for when you get access to the talent trees at level 10. You can and should train every skill in every tree that your trainer has to offer. Your training should be your first priority when it comes to spending your hard-earned money and that money will start coming easier as you level. Remember to bring every thing you loot that you can possibly carry back to the venders to sell and possibly invest in some additional bags if you can find some cheap ones because selling loot is your main money maker at the low levels.

Once you get a little higher, you can choose to train in two main professions and I would strongly advise choosing two 'gathering' professions as they will make you money faster than the flashier (but money-eating) crafting professions. Herbalism, Mining and Skinning are the main gathering professions and selling off the items you find (mainly in the AH) will gradually have you making 20-30g a stack (or more!) on gathered items and even more once you get to the Outlands (if you have the expansion).

Ok everyone. After researching Priests, I have decided that I want to be a Holy/Disc. Priest. I know that it takes a long time to level up being a holy priest, but I think this is what I want to do. I am not for sure what to put my talent points in for a holy priest as soon as I get to level 10. Can someone help? Is training different than talent points? I am so confused!

First, you need to understand the difference between spells/abilities and talents. You should generally train all the spells and abilities your trainer offers. I realize money can be tight at first but you'll find it easier to make once you get your professions rolling, and in the meanwhile make training your priority versus buying anything else. Don't bother buying equipment or weapons at the lower levels, just use what drops. Train everything.

Once you reach level 10, you'll get talent points, one per level, that you can spend on different holy, discipline, or shadow talents. This is a completely different thing from training with your trainer, and this is where you specialize in a particular area. Most priests will tell you to spend most of your points in Shadow while you're leveling because it makes for much easier solo play.

Finally and most importantly, at the very top of this forum is the Priest FAQ. Read it. Make it your friend. It'll tell you everything you need to know about the different talents as well as professions and other useful information for leveling up.

ETA: Morghast's reply and your second post came up while I was typing this one. You can level Holy (I am), but it's harder and works best if you're grouped up as often as possible, so hopefully you work and play well with others. :) Again, read the FAQ for Holy talent builds. There was also a thread a while back on the order to spend your points while leveling up. I'll see if I can find it for you.

Edited again to add: Found it. Check out Ixidoria's post here:

spirit tap is a passive talent that only activates when you kill something that gives you exp/honor (so the monster has to be green or higher). You have 2 points in spirit tap that means it will activate (proc) 40% of the time.
