Teach a noob hunter every week to play.Follow

This is basically a semi funny semi sad story if you don't like it go on to the next one.

The day before last I had a 50+ hunter I didn't know whisper me with the words.

Could you help me out?

Depends but tell me what I can do.

I want an Ah weapon it will last me until 60+ easily. could you loan me xxx gold for it?

emm you don't need it. you'll be able to get better quest greens so long as you go outlands in x levels. if not play av and do the quest for the pole arm.

But it's EPIC weapon!!! it'll last me until 63!!!

... what weapon are you talking about again?

IT's http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=647

... you don't need it. it's a junk weapon for a hunter.

But it's EPIC.

1. it's not going to proc when you shoot someone.
2. strength does not add to your ranged or your pet damage.
3. a hunter using meelee is the same as a priest melee. a waste of time when the priest could wand the guy to death or a hunter using wing clip, walk away and start shooting. or fake death and continiue shooting.
Now shut up about that weapon being useful for you of I'm going to ignore.

...

...

so what is useful for me?

point of the story. someone should have told him what a hunter needs LOONNNNGGGG before he reached 50.

NO, he should have figured something as simple as that out LONG before he hit 30, let alone 50, if you hit 50 without knowing how to play the class (what stats and equipment you should use included) it means you really don't care about playing it well, so go roll something else or don't ever plan on getting in a group.

Bah that story would have ended for me with a stranger asking me for money. If I don't know someone and they ask to borrow money, that's the end for me, I don't need to know the what and why of the borrowing, because I don't care.

Whenever I get someone asking me for gold, I always direct them to the closest humanoid mobs outside of the city. Like if someone asks me in SW, I will tell them there are some defias right outside the gates that will gladly loan you a few copper, I am sure if you ask enough of them then you will get the gold you need.

I've never condoned asking anyone for money in games, not even guild mates. Though I am much more forgiving to guildmates, I have always been of the mindset that if I can't afford it then I go without it.

Eh, people solo their way to 70 all the time. If a level 50 doesn't know their class, it can mean a variety of things. To me, it means they are in an awful guild who is more interested in taking care of their 70s than in helping their pre-70s learn their class. It can also mean they have time to play, but not to read up on HOW to play.

I don't care how solo artists play, and if they buy useless crap that I might be selling off the AH, more power to them. I only care that, once they are in a group situation, they are attentive and quick to learn. I shouldn't have to tell a hunter "don't sting your trap target" more than once (but this has happened).

And of course, I agree with everything SynnTastic said about borrowing gold.

lol makes me think ofsome of the warriors and pallies i've grouped with. i'm 44 warr and read up alot i played 2 guys to 70 in eq one of wich a warr. but i get them who dont do right stuff to tank or even dps or right builds and weapons. prot pally who didnt use rightous fury. 2h weapon warr who went for fast low damage weapon instead of higher hitting one. prot warr who had tallents all over the place. after saying all this i was hopeingthey was weeded out at like 35 but i'm still seeing them. guess would help if some peeps read what others write on here. like that guy he could have learned before even playing the guy.

Yeah I agree with sloshot. In my guild we sort of have a policy of "whoever has resources help the others," we'll do a run-through if necessary or buy stuff off the AH for each other. But, where I may spend 20-30g for a recipe for my GM, he may farm the mats (except for primal earth) to get me some leg armor kits, and save me 40g+ in the process. Of course, people have to earn their place in line, we dont just let that level 15 rogue come in and give him 500g in gear and then all the twink enchants.

Of course, doing MT the other day and a nice blue shield drops, I scream "HUNTER ITEM I'M ROLLING NEED!" and then tell them all I'm just kidding.

That actually happened during a WC run on my BElf hunter.

There was a second hunter in the group, we killed Kresh and that shield drops, we had all wiped cause the idiot didn't put his pet away and jumped down the cliff closest to little cavern where the final dude is.

So the idiot needed the shield...When people do stupid stuff like that they deserve Ban-age

Huh, you know, should the game even GIVE the option of rolling need on an item that they can't equip?

I guess there's the issue of getting an item to the right person for disenchanting, but otherwise...

Well there is an optional setting to have it like this. If you set loot to "Need Before Greed", you can only loot things you can equip.

The only problem this mechanic of the game has, is you can't roll on everything.

Say you have a lvl 50 party that has a Warrior, Priest, Warlock, Rogue and Mage. A piece of BoP mail drops, now the warrior isn't going to wear it, because he should be wearing plate, but since he is the only one that can equip it, he is the only one that can roll on it. Meanwhile, the priest is an enchanter that could have D/E the item and everyone could have rolled on the shard.

So the option is there, but it is a very flawed mechanic. Now if they had simply made it that you can't roll Need on items you can't equip, it may have worked. But how it is now, you can't roll at all, so it sucks.

Also consider if that's a nice BoE mail armor, and one of the classes has a warrior/paladin alt (lets assume for instance they're in a high 30's instance and the tank has just hit 40), now the one says "can I roll need I want that for my paladin" and everyone else figures "eh, I've got no mail-wearing alts in that level range, so sure, go ahead." So now you've got the priest rolling on a mail item. Of course, that would be a nice group, most of the time I'd say to just greed it and buy it off whoever gets it.

And then you have to factor in DEing (as was mentioned). My warrior is an enchanter, but people get offended when I roll greed on BoP cloth items that nobody else in the group wants (of course, they can't do anything - I'm a good enough tank and at low enough level instances we can 4-man things, and my friend is my permahealer so I KNOW that wont be an issue, and as MT I'm group leader all the time) but I'm pretty sure some people would be mad since warriors arent usually enchanters.

What skribs describes is common for our guild group. In fact, when there's something that someone doing the instance or group doesn't need, someone will invariably point out that someone else's ALT could 'use' that and everyone will pass but the person who's ALT would be benefitted by it.

We only DE if there is really no benefit to anyone, then it becomes mats and our guild enchanter gets it. The guild enchanter tends to give us our enchants free as well... not on just the duty but the mats.

We have a pretty low-key, fun guild.

we usually kick anyone who doesn't ask but rolls need when everyone is rolling greed for the instance boe drops for his alt. unless he acts nice and gives everyone else a couple of g for it. Most of the time when someone says Can I roll need for x item for my alt. I'd just reply. MM give everyone else x gold for the trouble and we'll all probably pass on it for you if noone else needs it. (unless it's bop)

I feel your pain on Hunters not understanding gear, I know a lvl 70 hunter that still has 300 Strength...but the main reason for my reply is offer some fun advice. I often Walk around with a couple of mining picks in my bags (I don't mine anymore), and every time someone asks me for money, I immediately open a trade window and click trade. the reactions are priceless, from laughing to threats, it NEVER gets old. Fishing pole is also comical, so when they ask where the money is, one can reply with "Teach a toon to fish..."

Despite the OP's actual post, I will post regarding his title.

Last night I was bored and 1v1 outside of Ironforge. After a couple fights, a priest started saying hunters were OP etc, etc. I was about to ignore them when they asked me for help. "I have a hunter and would love to learn some of your tricks".

Happy that it wasn't stupid bashing, but legit wanting to get better I said "Sure Log on :)" So they did... and we dueled. I taught him/her a lot of different techniques that I use when PVPing. Then I realized their spec wasn't very optimal.. so I gave them the cash to respec if they would do as I asked.

After about an hour and a lot of fun I decided to log out. Made me happy though.
