tanks and healers do not bid on dps gear. Period

Depends on who's also bidding tbh, my priest has t4 damage shoulders and pants while its a healer.
The people who also wanted is was an alt and 2 new guys (2nd raid).

You guys brought up some nice aspects of the change I did not see at first.. thanks for that.

I was mainly concerned about holy/disc priests being too OP in BG's. I have seen a video with holy guy casting 3K holy fires on warcraftmovies. So I am wondering what will that bring for him..

Well I guess we will wait and see. In general this is a welcomed change it seems.

This won't impact on me that much as I tend not to play my characters out side of instances at level 70, but also I have dps options for grinding. I still think it's a positive change.

For a start the game we are playing is called World of Warcraft, that some people have to spend their time doing non-combat quests or activities to farm gold seems a little out of place (considering also that even in a group they aren't actively killing anything). Added to that those activities have no added gold amount attached to them. If you spend an hour on kill quests you get the quest rewards + drops from mobs. If you spend an hour on non-kill quests or flying around farming you get no extra loot (not to mention the latter is bloody boring).

I don't think it's unreasonable to think that people should be able to spend at least some time killing things in a game that is about a world rife with conflict.

Secondly, I think this change is to address the progression of various classes/specs as they go through the game. Say we have a mage and priest who are in the same guild, the bars represent grinding time (the bigger, the better).

Level 69:
Priest (shadow) <->
Mage <->

Level 70:
Priest (holy) <>
Mage <->

Kara cleared:
Priest <>
Mage <-->

SSC cleared:
Priest <>
Mage <--->

TK cleared:
Priest <>
Mage <---->

And so on.

Yes, technically the priest is no worse at soloing than they were when they first 'dinged' 70, and maybe they'll have a few cast off dps items (which they may or may not have needed to spend dkp on) to boost their efficiency.

The point is that whilst the mages raiding gear increases the speed at which they are able to grind, the priests gear does absolutely nothing for them, not to mention they are already gimped by a talent specced geared at healing rather than damage.

This change won't make healer's dps on a par to dps specced character's, but it should at least allow them to get some sense of progression in their character outside of a raiding environment from the loot they receive in raids. It should reduce healer burnout, as they don't have to wait for everyone and their alt to get dps gear before they get a look in.

Pvp I don't think it will be too bad, currently healers are pretty much a free hk unless they have someone else with them (or can stay alive long enough to wait for back-up). They will also need to balance their mana pool between healing and dps (so it won't be the case of an uber healing nuking everyone and topping their group up). This might at least give them a chance 1v1, without having to wait for your opponant to die of boredom.

That came out wrong. They can grab the stuff thats not needed anymore. But new drops, drops that will advance the raids dps...healers and tanks have no right to roll on any of that imo. I'm glad my guild would have never even thought of giving away the T5 we all worked hard for to an off-spec.

Now when we're heading back for a 4 hour kara clear, sure theres some pieces the dps'ers already have, or dont need. I have no problems with healers rolling there. But the dps gets equipped first, always.

Nothing like a quick 20-30 minute "wham, bam, gold and gone" bombing run + memory game farming session.

Sure, that's great, IF you only need 30g a day. Many priests need a lot more than that. Farming is still the most efficient and long-term way of making money, which is *severely* gimped in raid gear.

But I still don't see why anyone would run around in eagle/owl gear. I mean seriously.

Eagle/owl gear on your mage would be the equivalent of the healing gear many priests solo in. It offers stam, int, and/or spirit, but nothing in terms of actual damage bonuses.

Tynuv, you illustrated the point very well :D Mages, locks, and pretty much everyone except prot warriors and healers get significant boosts to their solo'ing ability through raid gear. This fixes the problem with healers, they just need to figure something out about the warriors.

Yeah my bf plays a prot warrior and at some levels he's relatively happy solo (he gets some nice devastate crits sometimes), but then I come along with my feral druid (also specced for tanking) and kill mobs in half the time - and then he doesn't feel so happy about his grinding capabilities.

Does that mean say, +40 to spell damage and healing will actually give me +55~ish spell damage? Since a lot of equip boosts both spell damage and healing? Ooh.. sexy.

No. This has already been discussed.

If the + to spell dmg and healing did give the bonus to +dmg again, all gear would be extremely overpowered and there would be a ***** load more QQing from non-casters. I mean mages can already throw out huge crits with fireballs and POM-Pyro's, i don't think blizz wants to give em even more bang for their buck.
