I'm a lvl.24, BE. I've been wondering what is the best pet?
I've been using the VW and I'm satisfied. obviously I got the succubus but I never use it. I admit I didn't really give it a go. Should I start using the succubus? is it better than the VW?
is one of them better suited for a certain situation more than the other?
Sorry if it has been asked before,
Alex

I'm sure it's been asked before, but still, pets are very situational depending on your play style, build, and where they are being used. I'm mostly affliction specced so the following ideas are based on that spec, might be a different story if you are demon specced. I use the imp as a mana battery to fuel dark pact and as a stamina booster for the party. Since you are not high enough level for dark pact, imp is probably not the best choice yet. I rarely use voidwalker anymore though did use it a lot while levelling. I mostly use it now for those situations where I need the extra protection from sacrificing him. The succubus is a very useful demon in any instance that requires humanoid crowd control. She also does more melee damage than the voidwalker but will not hold aggro as well most of the time. The advantage is that she helps burn the enemy down faster if you choose the route of drain tanking from a low level. The felhunter I find useful against any caster enemy as well as helping you locate that pesky rogue with paranoia. Does decent damage but won't hold aggro for long. Just like succubus, I use the felhunter to soften the enemy up before it aggros on me. As for the felguard, I have never played a demon spec before so can't tell you much on its use. Hope that answers the question :-)

Ripped from here...

Imp has terrible stats except for Spirit, and terrible techniques except for Bloodpact (which actually the range is so low on it doesn't really matter much when you're talking about a Warrior intercepting distant enemies.) The honest reason for this pet is to greatly boost the potency of an Affliction lock by staying completely out of combat (with his Phaze shift he doesn't even get hit by AE) and keeping his Mana generation very high (at 49 its 222m per 6 seconds.) This mana can be tapped by the affliction lock (via Dark Pact) to produce a very viable source of mana in times of steady grinding or hard PVP or PVE Boss situations. Exceptional Post-40 Affliction Lock Pet

Voidwalker has terrible stats except for his STA and armor. His techs are some of the best for steady vs Melee grinding, however. He has a short-cooldown single target taunt which is relatively low mana, a powerful AE taunt with a longer cooldown, a extremely efficient and powerful self-heal (especially for lower levels), and the ability to sacrafice himself to create a very nice shield for the warlock. Post 40s, though, his extremely low SPI and lack of mana generation really hit nasty on his abilities to tank (and especially self heal afterwards) which leaves you with a low DPS pet taking too much time out of your grind to baby sit and let rest. Can be flash-summoned to create bar-none the best Warlock defensive ability, however. Exceptional 10-35ish Grinding pet.

Succubus has relatively decent DPS and defense, but her HP/MP are pretty low. Her techniques vary greatly but can be used in conjuction to make for some nice grinding. One could consider her the rogue of the pets. Her invis spell also makes her an extremely good traveling partner as potential PVP enemies will not see her coming at all. Exceptional 20-29 and 30-39 bracket Pet for BG and general PVP.

Felhunter has very rounded stats, but his grinding potential is weakened by his lack of tanking techniques. He can, however, make a potent Caster-killer with his Silence and Spelleating. His improved invisibility detection can be an enormous help in certain situations as well. Destro-locks like this pet for his ability to compliment their anti-caster prowess and bolster their ability to handle Rogues and Feral Druids. Exceptional PVP Defensive pet, exceptional companion to PVP Destruction Warlocks.

Felguard is essentially a full-blown warrior, complete with nice warrior techniques. A very powerful taunt, a boost to defensive capabilities, a sweeping attack, and of course Intercept. Essentially this pet's greatest strength is his intercept ability and his overpowering combination of DPS and HP. One thing to notice about this pet, however, is that it is severely lacking in specialized techniques that benefit the Warlock. The use of this pet and the Tree that grants his summoning is essentially an agreement between the Warlock and his pet that the Pet will be the new star of the show, and the Warlock essentially works to boost the abilities of that pet for the good of both of them. This is the pet that is so capable that it no longer needs to boost the Warlocks ability, yet rather allows the Warlock to boost his.

I don't know what you're farming to make the VW go OOM (unless you're using Dark Pact on him, which is an extremely stupid use of a VW), but I've seldom encountered VW OOM situations. He's not there to drain - he's there to tank for you. I've used a VW almost exclusively to L70 (except in instances). A VW is a good tank against 4 same-level mobs, 2-3 higher-level mobs or 1 same-level elite, and still has enough mana left to heal himself afterwards. The beauty of using a VW is that the mobs never reach you, which equals low or no armor repair and always being able to tap/drain which means no health or mana loss.

I don't think I've ever seen any 'lock over 45 running around with a VW on the Horde side.

Aff 'locks I see with either imp or succy, Demon with FG (obviously) and Destro with any combination of imp, succy or puppy.

I myself haven't used the VW since 56 (when I got FG - because, well, why would you?).

I miss him though. He was a good and faithful companion for many months. RIP Thulmoth.

I'm soon going to respec for Aff though, so maybe he will rise again.

Don't gotta bash the straight facts, VW has terrible SPI/INT and no abilities to get that mana back faster.

If you're Demo then you're techs will obviously help him retain/attain mana (although then you're looking at the ability to use a Felguard anyways.)

If you're Destro or Fliction and you use VW you will slow your leveling down comapaired to having NO PET by giving him time to get agro and then letting him heal and then once he's healed enough times (which, btw happens to be only about 4 times!!) he'll be out of mana. 4 Equal level monsters can be handled with an IHoT, and lets not even touch on how easy elites are to kite...

His taunts are good but they are heavy mana in the post 50s, and his heal is extremely mana efficient but by the time you hit 40 it doesn't make up for his low Mana and Low SPI. It costs him about 1/3 his mana to heal himself... and if you're actually using his taunts he casts in JUST the right time to cancel his natural mana regen which is already pathetic.

I'm confused in what situations, for you, grinding 4 equals at a time and then waiting to get your VW reset and able to do 4 again would be more efficient than chaining 3-4 at any given time with a decent DoT-Fear Rotation.

***** that blue ******.

Eh...I prefer to stay safe with my handy blue tank taking the hits for me. It may be less efficient, but when you're having to do stuff outside of the game, I'd rather be less efficient than dead. More difficult to ***** up VW tanking for you when someone walks in to chit chat as opposed to chain fearing.

Funny, on my server I see lot of 70 BElfs trying to farm things with VW - maybe they think it looks good on them :p

I would in your place, if nothing else for practice.
I suppose if I used mine regularly from level 20 when I got her, I wouldnt hate seducing so much as I do now.
At some point you will be asked to some instances mainly because of CC and seduce is one of the most wanted. Better get used to it as soon as you can.

And there is no best pet.... considering what some say felguard would (and should considering the talent points spent) be teh best, but I still do not use him all the time. In some fights I found other pets more useful.
Apart from VW that is, felguard can replace him completely.

Other than Seduce, I actually tend to think that Felguard replaces the Succubus as much as it does the VW.

Succubus has fastest attacks, highest DPS, and the only attack-tech (Lash of Pain). Succy has approximately the correct stats for her level (borderline rogue stats) and excells at beating down things 1 or 2 levels below her (much like a regular melee or the Felguard.) VW's insane inbalance in stats means that even on a monster 10 levels below him it'll take him 3 hours to kill something, but he is totally capable of tanking something much higher than him. VW will also continue to have much more Armor and more self-sustainability than the Felguard, which makes him somewhat viable for specific OTing or tanking multiples.

This is absolutely not to say that the VW is better at all than the Felguard though. The way I work is to cut out downtime and cut down on killtime as much as possible, and the big blue guy is by far the slowest way of doing things.

Generally VW is good to use because he is able to hold aggro and therefore stop you from taking the hits. of course you can use drain life to keep yourself healthy but it's better to prevent then to heal.
Felhuntard (lol) is good against any caster class but does not hold aggro.
Succy and imp are more DPSers that lack HP and taunts and therefore if you use them you'll get attacked all the time. If you're well stamina geared and this does not hold you back, go with imp or succy, probably imp for his buff. Succy is good for CC in instances or in PvP. felguard, if you go demo, is best pet but you must go demo to get him. Infernal (lvl 55) and Doomguard (lvl 60) are even more efficient but hard to summon and unstable, meaning they will attack you after a little while. I always used VW until I got FG. Hope this helps.

Why? Other than repair bills of course!

I've used VW for grinding without any problems as an afflict lock. Sick the pet, load up on dota and start draining. Usually get him to under half hp when he goes for me, and at that point I keep draining and get me vw to head for the next target to build up a little aggro.
