Paladin TanksFollow

I'm a 70 shadowpriest and have been playing for awhile. I usually run with a Warrior/Druid tank and focus on 1 target at a time for dps. Lately I have been running with a Paladin tank who doesn't CC and instead AoE tanks, and I still focus on 1 target to dps. Another shadowpriest I group with though throws his VT and SW:P on all the mobs and then does single target dps. My question is which way is more efficient? Throwing our dots on multiple targets is a good way to increase our damage but to me it seems to come with more cons then pros. There are times where the tank doesn't really hit all the mobs and when the dots get too powerful it will pull aggro. Also I believe we aren't really a dps class but more of a utility class and focusing on 1 mob at a time increases the effect of VE and VT which I believe to be more effective. Anyways I hope this makes sense and would love any input that you have.

IF the pallie tank is good, putting dots on every mob helps a lot, because it increase the dps a lot, and it helps the tank because he will get hit a lot more.
OFc it can resume to person, so have a chat with the pallie that will gonna tank and ask his opinnion, if he can't or doesn't think is good to build agro on every mob to let you "aoe" then don't do it.
Focus is for another kind of tanks.

Paladin tanks are capable of dishing out great amounts of threat. I've seen pally tanks go afk during the battle and still hold aggro. I dont think a SW:P would rip aggro off too quickly. Unless they are terrible.

But if you do happen to pull aggro off, you have fade. He also has a taunt and can grab aggro via avenger shield, judging, or something else. Unless your hits are twice as threatening as his, i think you'll be fine.

Hmmm ok well I know my tank is pretty solid my question was more about the efficiency of me dotting a bunch of mobs as opposed to me focusing on 1 at a time. It seems to me that the point of shadowpriests in a group is VE and VT and by dotting multiple mobs you are increasing your dps but lowering the amount of health/mana you regen for the group. Does that make more sense?

DoTing two mobs with VT & SW:pain will return more mana, since you have 4 DoTs ticking instead of just 2, plus you are only away from your main-target main flaying for 2.5 seconds as you apply VT & SW:pain to an addition mob. You only miss 1 MF, so I think it's worth doing, if you can get away with it.

Because of the cooldown on VE, it's had to get that going on more than one mob.

It is less efficient, since you're not getting full weaving on each mob. However, my experience is this rarely matters outside of raids, especially once you get to the higher damage levels. Just drink up after each big pull.

Semi-off-topic, but tankadins LOVE Power Infusion. Especially on larger pulls where they're making heavy use of Consecration, PI dramatically accelerates their threat generation. The tankadin in my guild is getting kind of jealous of my PIs now. XP
