Hi, I made a orc shaman
it's fun being a shaman. I reached level 12, ran to crossroads and started questing but it was really difficult for me to kill some mobs
when i tried to kill a kinda horseman i just died. And after each mob i was able to kill, I had to drink because i was out of mana.
Can someone please help me ? or is this normal?

most classes suck around level 12. But things can be difficult for shaman. Early on I relied on a melee heavy style of killing things. Only once I started getting a lot of spell damage gear did I convert to using lightning and shocks to kill things.

Have you done your fire totem quest? It's kind of hard, but I was able to do it at level 10 (though I died once getting through a group of mobs to get to that trail to the top of that mountain- problem with adds). Until you learn to get mobs down quick, it's not that bad to kill them slowly till you get the hang of thing. Searing totem is slower, but real efficient mana wise. Or you could just kill things quicker and have to drink to replenish mana more, it's your call. using a lot of shocks will drain your mana fast.

It's been a while since I was that level. But I'd say get in 2 lightnings and melee them down. If it's particularly tough mob, throw in a flame shock. If you fight more than one, searing totem may be useful (though I think it only lasts 20 seconds at that level). I think I'd try to fight more than one in the same spot, so it may be efficient to lay down strength of earth or stoneskin. but it's not really efficient to lay those totems to fight only one mob.

Try this for a beginners guide to Melee DPS style;
Put all your points into Enhancement to level.
Make sure Lightning Shield is active at all times.
Pull the mob with one Lightning Bolt.
Then drop one totem (your choice),when they reach you start swinging.
Use one shock (your choice again) if necessary to finish off/stop the runner.
For more than one mob use Stoneclaw Totem (Lifesaver).
For Elites / Bosses drop more totems before engaging and use lesser heal as required.
Try and pick up gear with STR/STA/AGI.
In a nutshell, that is what has got me to lvl 48.
Good Luck

on the start recast your lightning shield, try to pull with Lightning Bolt, try to cast it more times, use searing totem,+str totem, use shock(fire is i think better, normal dmg+dot)when mob is on meele distance use you mace(always remember to recast enchance spell)when you have low hp use totem that taunt your enemy(i forget his name:) )
and don worry,im lvling shammy now and after 30 he is great...

just wanted to say...

Im doing a shaman now also..

so far I'm doing like so that I try to attack from max range first, I throw a lightning bolt and keep throwing it untill the mob is near me.. and depending on what mob it is.. (can it heal?) then I decide whatever to use earth or flame shock.

can they heal I usually wait with the shock untill they're throwing their heal(so I interrupt it.) and if they cant I use flame shock first cause it makes more damage in the length..
and when CD is over I might use a earth shock..

but otherwise I keep melee'ing the mob down..

using that method I usally regen all mana that I've used to start the fight..

(just lvl 13 atm, at higher levels it might be better to use totems, the lightning shield and such..)

Honestly you'll need to give us more information if you want a more correct reply.

You need to tell us what you're using for weapons, talents, which tree you're going and your rotation of spells.

If you're elemental and relying on your spells, then yea you're going to run out of mana faster than enhancement. Reason being, well you're relying on your casting spells to kill them thus more mana is used. Wacking with a weapon doesn't require mana. d(^^)b

At your level I would be using a one handed weapon and shield. Staves and other weapons won't put out good damage. Mind you this is for enhancement spec.
Using a shield will increase your armor and survivability. Once you hit 21, I believe, then you'll be able to use two handed axe and maces. This will allow you to kill faster, but if you feel your survivability is still low go for one handed weapon + shield.

Make sure to position yourself properly, such as close enough between two or more groups of enemy but far away enough so you wont get aggro. If you do this then you wont have to recast your totems as much. If you do this right, then you can pull mobs to you with Lightning Bolt and you'll be in range to obtain your totems effect.

At your level I used the Rockbiter for my weapon. If you pull more than one enemy drop a Stonclaw totem and kill your main target. If not then put down a Strength of Earth totem to kill your main target faster. Getting hit too hard? Put down a Stoneskin totem.

As a Shaman, especially at your level, you'll need to learn how to use your mana effectively or else you'll just run out of mana after every battle. Remember you're not a mage, so don't be trigger happy.

Start a fight with two Lightning Bolts followed by a Flame Shock. After that just pound away with your weapon. Throw in a Earth Shock if you still have a good amount of mana left. Ofcourse make sure you have the necessary totems up suited to your situation at the time. One thing about Shaman is that you need to learn to use what totem at what time.

Be careful about Searing totem. It's a very nice totem but remember you don't control who it hits. Sure it might start hitting the target you're hitting, but after that target dies it will shift to the next target if it's close enough. Your totem wont wait for you to be ready to fight, it'll just shoot anything in range. So if you're not ready to fight, you better start running hahaha.
