I'm looking for 8.6% +hit, right?

EDIT: Or +5.6% on SV?

if you are a Level 70 character with a Weapon Skill of 350, you need a Hit Rating of 142 (9.00%) to never miss a shot against a Level 73 boss (or skull mob)

Hmmm...I could have sworn it was 8.6%. Was it changed?

Anyway, the question was, should I be shooting for the cap or is there a benchmark in between that would be acceptable for raids?

Would depend on the raid. In Kara, I accept Hunters no matter their +Hit. But I would prefer it if they got the +Hit available to them unless their AP/Crit would suffer from it.

Don't sacrifice AP or Crit for +Hit, unless you have a decent amount of both. I'd suggest the Accurascope or whatever it was called, if you can get ahold of it. With Surefooted, that should give you enough Hit not to be gimped in any way.

The only time you really should be thinking about +hit, is when the items you are comparing is otherwise similar. Don't lose more than small amounts of AP/Crit/Agi(for Surv) for Hit. Sooner or later, you'll get more than enough of both. Hybrid Gems (adds two different "buffs") will also help out alot for more balanced gearing.

You get 1/15.8 hit or 1/22.1 crit per hit rating. That means 0.0452% crit or 0.0633% hit per rating. If you count +30% damage on crit, 0.0588% damage increase per crit rating.

So, properly talented, (since the combat ratings system would put 1% hit and 1% crit as pretty much the same DPS) 1.077 Crit Rating = 1 Hit Rating, or 0.929 Hit Rating = 1 Crit Rating.
