Well first of all consider the warlock for what it does:

1.DPS (Over time, mostly)
2. Tanking with pet (VW, DG)to a certain extent

So....yeah, warlocks can get a group ALMOST as easily as hunter, as it is very similar (however at the same time different). In all the groups I have played, 1/3 I played with at least one lock. That is, considering that my server is kinda low pob and there aren't many warlocks in it. But they are an easy and rewarding class to play, once you understand how to.

BTW, guilds are no exception 2 this.

i don´t think and certainly don´t hope any warlock has to fall back to VW-tank something. The primary role of a warlock is massive DPS not just overtime, but big manadumps as well. There are alot of meele-unfriendly mobs in the end-game instances where warlocks really get a chance to shine. There is even a mob in ssc which is tanked by a warlock specced netherprotection and loads of fire-resistance gear.
Of course you will get into guilds and groups, unless it´s like on my server were there is a shedload of WL´s crowding the place.
The warlock has a few cc and aoe abilities which are priceless in certain instances.

Depends on what you consider your primary role and how do you perform.

Guild - well as a GL I would first check above mentioned before I would let you join. And some other stuff - like how mature are you about waiting on loot/raiding/whatever, sharing and realizing the guild as whole is more important than you as single person.

Groups - I can hardly sit in Shat for 5 minutes without getting invites for this or that instance, but I usually decline because I really dont feel like puging much anymore.

lot of locks and hunters on my server. They don't seem to be in high demand on my server. But if you are good, you will have no problem finding a group. But there is little demand for dps on my server. there are so many. usually what I see in chat is groups looking for tank and healer. One reason I chose a healing class to do end game stuff (right now taking a break rep grinding- i hate grinding). My warlock is purely for fun.

warlocks role? kill things...fast. Warlock CC is useful in some instances, but if you can't kill things fast you won't be of much use to anyone.

k, firstly you need to decide what "end-game" is for you. is it:

1. PVP

2. solo and 5man grinding with little bits of pvp and not wanting much more

3. end-game raiding

if it's either of the first 2 then your role is to crowdcontrol oponents, curse of tongues healers and all in all be a nuisance to the oposition while also doing your best to dps.

if it's the 3rd then you have a few available roles as well as some that you have no choice on

1. DPSer. as this you can spec into any tree you like really, destruction being the best for dps with afliction being close behind it

2. buffer/debuffer + slightly worse dps. basically you spec into afliction for malediction and 5/5 shadow embrace with 3/3 improved imp and 2/2 improved healthstone in demo and the remainder going into improved shadowbolt and bane for dps. with this spec you benefit the raid most when it comes to versitility.

3. crowdcontroller. this you have no choice on. the moment you enter an instance with elementals or demons you can be near enough certain you'll be banishing them at some point, also in some situations you'll be required to use your aoe fear and single target fear too.
