Charging mobsFollow

I've been experiencing this strange "bug" for a while. If the mob does one of those surprise charges on me even if my pet has aggro (according to KTM), then I can't seem to get back to range. The mob will go back to attacking my pet who had run up to rescue me, but when I strafe away, or back up, or just turn and run, both the mob and my pet will follow me. I end up meleeing it down because I just can't get distance on the fight.

Has anyone else run into this?

edit: grammar

I've had a similar thing happen to me once or twice. Even when I use Intimidate on my pet, the mob would still followed me. What I did was set a Freeze Trap, got into position, healed both myself and pet then re-sent pet in.

whip out your big two hander and smack em in the head, do a quick wingclip after and then run.

FD and run off, that is usually how I fix it...

Had it happen to me a few times when I'm farming a stack of Warp Burgers in Netherstorm. Hell, a few times? Half the time they warp charge me it happens. So, I got kinda tired of meleeing the damn things to death, and decided on talking to a GM. He was intrigued, and promised to hit a test server and check it out to verify my story. Three hours later, he contacted me with verification, and told me he had sent a report. He considered this a somewhat serious bug.

So the Devs should be aware of it, and who knows, they might actually be working on it.

Has it happened after the patch?

Has it happened this patch?

Yup, happened to me all this morning - warp stalkers and raptors in BEM both.

Haven't tried the FD trick though, might give that a shot.

Had an Ogre do this to me last night in Zangarmarsh. Morris had full aggro but kept walking toward me to kill range. I could open it back up and keep shooting but if you are on the wrong side of a target in a confined space, you don't have any run room to range. You have to get to the 'right' side of the target then get range. It's a time waster but no harm no foul. I had been thinking for months that they just 'smartened' up the mobs to deal with hunters better. I've watched this effect since BC came out. Not all mobs do it.

Happens alot for me. What I normally does is to put my pet on "stay" and the FD. That does the trick. I've tried just to FD, that makes the pet run to me with the mob I was fighting. Utterly annoying. I've tried to ask a GM about it, he had no solution (as useually) to the problem.

(Sry for spelling/gramma like a 5 year old - I'm danish and can't help it :P)

I always thought this mechanic was done on purpose, to keep Hunters on thier toes. I have found that our attack radius is higher than their charge radius, so that is one way to deal with it - don't get charged in the first place.

Meleeing the bugger down works too, but it does take time. If you need to re-establish range, simply stop all DPS, heal the pet as needed, and eventually the NPC will lose interest in you and you can move away without any problems.

Yes, FD works in this situation, but I prefer to save FD for those oops, I pulled 5 mobs at once, and the pet isn't gonna make it events.

Maybe I missunderstod the problem in the first place. But what I meant was, that the pet has aggro from the mob, but as they fight they are moving towards me - and that must clearly be a bug since the pet was ordered to attack and not to retreat ^^. Nomather how much I spam/mash the attack button it just moves towards me (normally it's not a problem since the mobs dies before it gets to me anyway ^^). The "stay" + FD was just meant as a way to keep the mob away ;).

I have noticed this on several mobs. The mob somehow gets in melee range and then from there on it attacks pet but it follows you.

Ive found that dropping a fire trap and a wing clip raptor strike maaccro then kiting the mob works well. Or just meleeing it, never tried the fd way.

I never had a problem with this except with the Foot of the Citadel quest (horde) in hellfire peninsula. I could not solo this quest. The guy is only a 63 elite, and I can't beat him. He hits me too hard. even if my pet does 4000 damage to the elite, and I do 0, I still can't shake aggro. He will continue to go after me. But that is probably a different problem than what you are describing.

I did have a similar problem with some aged clefthoofs in nagarand though. I'd have a tough time losing aggro after a charge, but eventually I would lose it. But it seemed really inconsistant the way they charged.

But the problem is different in that it attacks me, not my pet. With the aged clefthoofs I don't think it's a bug. I think he drops all threat when he charges you, but if that were the case my pet should get it back. He can do more damamge than I can melee I would think. so it may be buggy.

As I started paying attention to the issue months ago, the only 'common' thread I could find is that the mob was moving to intercept me already. If I sent my pet to them, they would settle down into a fight zone, however, if the mob aggro'd on me and I sent Morris to intercept, the mob and Morris would see-saw toward me until they were in the dead zone then settle down. I think there's some kind of secondary aggro going on here...

I've sent Morris headlong into 2-4 mobs before, with a heal already on him and prior to their aggroing on him. As he draws all the mobs attention, I have my safety trap (usually freeze) set up and am standing on it (habit from PvP days, don't need to do this in PvE! Doh!). I crank off an aimed and then go into rotation. Strangely, 1 or 2 of the other mobs will then charge ME. How are they picking up this 'secondary' aggro on me when I'm casting against the main target whom Morris has totally entranced? They reach me, safety trap goes off and main target usually goes down about this time so Morris and I switch.

If this secondary aggro idea holds any water at all, it means that the target (and buddies) has to be aware that there's a hunter out there and the mob AI has been made smarter to go engage the hunter (no more free rides?).

This only seems to apply to social targets, and not groups of solo's. Maybe it's just the AI of the social Mobs that is a bit smarter?

Anyone else with observations along these lines?

I've had that happen infrequently while grinding ogres in Nagrand. I hope they fix this soon.

this one is probably caused by the aggro generated through healing your pet.
this thing also happened to me a lot of times - the answer is - switch your pet's target a few times, so that it can generate enough aggro to keep above the heal-aggro that you generate :)

I've thought of that. I normally send my pet in under a heal, so he's healing before he's even got any aggro or target attention at all.

I've also had him hit every target in a group, growl at each and he holds aggro fairly well but they still occasionally pull even though I'm on one target. I'm surprised if a minor heal can overcome a growl.

If this is the case, Blizz needs to turn the aggro dial down on the heals, but it does explain why the healers are so high on the threat lists. I mean, after 2 growls, I can dump the planet on a target and it won't pull from Morris. So I'm curious if such a minor heal as a pet heal, puts out so much hate...

Bit late reply :P

But this works for me

If i notice a mob sticks I just tell the pet to follow me and then let it attack the mob again, that usually does the trick....

Unfortunately this problem persists even after this most recent patch. Thanks for the hints on how to fix the bug. They work great.

wouldnt get my hopes up on a fix for this anytime soon, noticed this from the ogres in nagrand during the first week of tbc, and reported it. the GM said that it was a known bug and should be fixed soon but well, look like me and blizz dont share the same meaning of "soon".

but yea, its really annoying and sometimes leathal :P
