So nooblestick, and pretty much everyone else i have read, says once you hit lvl 30 respec for combat swords. My rogue is approaching 30 (he is my main), and I am start to have some doubts about respeccing. I fully understand that combat swords is the best spec for grinding your way to 70. However, I am somewhat of an instance junky, and I love twink weapons. I followed the standard talent path sub-30 (most points in assass), and those bonusses, plus a pretty blue dagger make me LETHAL with ambush, backstab, SS, and i frequently get HUGE crits with them (huge to me anyway... around 400 pts). In groups i like to get behind a target and spam BS. With dual daggers and these specs I was able to solo through the first three bosses of WC at lvl 27 ... which is impressive to me. Plus... not much rolling competition or daggers. EVERYBODY rolls on swords.
So finally my question. If I am going to continue being an instance junky and support my group with BS, is combat swords REALLY the best option for me? I feel like it will be sad to give up half my spell book.
Will I be just effective in instances with swords?

You talk as if you need our approval to do differently than the 'standard method'

Do as you like, just know that the methods provided are given simply because it's been tested to be the easiest. Blizzard built their game to be a quick ride to the level cap so you can do all the other fun crap at the cap; if you'd rather have fun with some other method on the way up, power to you.

While daggers will give you are fun and you get some great crits, they require time and positioning to work properly. In the long run that will reduce your xp/hour. Also, most of the bosses in <60 five mans don't need to extra dps from daggers for your group to be effective. Especially in solo leveling, combat swords is a much more effective build.

I do understand daggers love tho. I leveled daggers and I can tell you, it is not worth it. They're cool and all, but don't do that to yourself.

Don't doubt nooble either.

The damage you get from daggers comes in spikes. Combat swords gives you a consistent level of damage - and the level is higher over time than you'll get with backstabs and ambushes. The advantages of a combat build are higher damage, no positioning requirement, and better control of your threat. The advantages of a dagger build are that it's more fun.

In five-mans, you'll be a greater asset to your pary as combat.

As a grinder, you'll get better XP/hour as combat.

Once you get adrenaline rush and blade flurry, I think combat is just as fun as a backstab build - but that's because I get so much joy out of cutting off four faces at once.

Once you hit 50-55 mutilate becomes an option, and I suggest you take it.

Thanks for the responses. Once I hit 30 I will respec and try it out. Its not like i couldnt spec back if I hate it. Im not looking forward to the cost of both respecc'ing and finding two good swords....

Instance grinding is so incredibly slow compared to proper quest stacking and grinding.

I'm in the middle of cooking dinner (twice baked potatoes, sauted mushrooms and italian baked chicken, yum), so I didn't have time to read all the posts, but I'll give my input on what I did read.

Basically, if you're having fun, not getting frustrated, and feel you're doing well, keep your spec. Daggers are immensely fun. I respecced at 40 for them (I picked up a Gut Ripper for next to nothing), and I had a blast. I was swords before, and respecced swords again a bit later.

While there are bad, good and best ways to do things, always remember that this is a game. You play it to have fun. If you have loads of fun seeing those big numbers pop up (I know I did), then by all means, continue.
