What am I lacking?Follow

#1 Sep 26 2007 at 2:35 PM Rating: Decent

/sigh

I never thought I would have to post my Armory but here it is:

Wylei

Im at 456 defense, and I have 48.7 avoidance (Base miss+Miss bonus+Dodge+Parry+block) without holy shield.

I feel like I'm missing Intel and spell damage. Until today I had 0 spell damage. I added the sword and bracers. With wizard oil I hope to be pushing 100 spell damage. I'm looking for a trinket or something to bump that up.

As far as my talents go, I plan on changing the ret side some. I have points in Conviction, they are for solo grinding. I plan on changing that at 70.

Anyway, I need ideas. I plan on reviewing instance drops, and checking quest rewards tonight.

What do should I gear for? Where do you see me lacking? Even general discussion would be nice. Thanks

Whoo female BE Tankadins ftw!

Aside from that...

I didnt have 1 spell damage until 70, I still don't have any int as I don't really need it.

Been said a bajillion times, but at 70 aim for.....

490 defense
102.4% avoidance
at least 200 spell damage
as much stamina and armor after that

You're honestly pretty well geared for a 66 tankadin. Just keep on crackin', grab yourself a Crystalforged sword if possible for when you hit 70 and slap a spell damage enchant on that, that will keep you good on spell damage for a while (161).

If you haven't read thels' guide yet I suggest you do, it has loads of information for gear that will help a lot. As far as specific items.... Crystalforged Sword, Jade-Skull Breastplate, Time-warden's Legplates, that trinket from SH are all good items to shoot for. The Sticky elaborates much better though.

As for talents, shame on you for skipping Ardent Defender. Ardent Defender > all of your ret talents. I would look at the 2 tanking paladin builds I have in the FAQ and see if they fancy you. Also, don't grab SoC, you have SoB just use that.

I would agree. I kinda wish I had it still. The ret is really helping my questing. I picked up some stuff to help my DPS, and now I can kill single targets faster.

My plan is to take the points out of Stoicism, SoC, and conviction. I want to go Benediction, parry, improved SotC, and judgements. Thats all the ret I plan to keep. My extra points are going into Ardent Defender.

I personally wouldn't (and didn't) even go for improved SotC. It might help later if I started MTing raids, but right now, I really need to judge wisdom to keep my mana up, damn me for being able to take a hit.

You're obviously doing what I did and that's single-target dps for questing and non-instancing. You can keep those ret points for now, your gear will make the biggest difference in how efficient you are at it, I swapped out I think every piece of gear between dps and tanking, and I made another set when I hit 70 for healing. Like I said though, use SoB cause while it may hurt you with every swing, overall you will do more damage with it and the damage is more or less negligible.

Edit: Right now though, if you are wiling to spend the money I would put the points out of one-handed specialization and put those in Ardent Defender and do your whole rebuild thing at 70, it really truly is a big life saver especially when tanking instances.

advice(a little OT): dont quest until you hit lvl 70. gain your xp and gear through instances. by lvl 70 you should be at least honored with every faction available. then you can rep grind through exalted via questing. plus quests are cake at lvl 70 + flying mount.

i would suggest staying full MT build and you wont have any trouble finding any runs or choosing your parties.

Well I really only quest for items that I can use. I'm kinda doing what Tommy suggests but some loot is too good to pass on. Having said that, some items that you could quest for or buy at your level:

Breastplate of the Warbringer (quest)
Leonine Breastplate (quest)
Necklace of Bloodied Feathers (quest)
Ravenguard's Greaves of the Crusade (lvl63 - buy)
Witching Band (This is a drop, but easy to aquire)
Black Pearl (buy)
Ancient Crystal Talisman (quest)

I would say Vibro Sword, but it's Alliance only.

Everything minus the Warbringer chestpiece has spell damage.

Crystal Forge Sword. . .

every time i look into getting this sword i give up. its either got terrible drop rates on the components or people are selling this thing for +400g, is that a worth while expense for under 2% block? when i can get a continuum blade . . . .

or is there an easier/cheaper way to get me a Crystal Forge Sword. i really want one but that expense is killing me when i have every other slot to enchant with things that i desperatly need now.

any advise?

Wait for it to be cheap? I got mine for 100 or 120, around there. If that's never going to happen just grab the Continuum Blade, it's still pretty good, just not AS good ;)

Yea, it's better from the threat/spell side of Paly tanking, but it also has 15 less Stamina, and being a Paly tank you really need that Stamina imo. My gf's Warrior has no epics yet, and still some sub-70 blues, I think a few greens too, and her health has almost matched mine when both of us are unbuffed ... Good for her, but sucks for me. Been trying to find ways to buff my health, gems and whatnot, without going under the "magic numbers".

While we're telling stories: a former guildy of mine happened upon the Crystalforged Sword, made it, enchanted it with 40 spell damage, and handed it to me. Had Continuum Blade before then, and was quite content to keep it for a long time (it looks awesome!), but how can you pass up free stuff? ;)

Honestly you are doing better than I was doing at 66 here is where u can do better the there is a chest in nagrand(excuse my poor spelling) that can be obtained very quickly. Also here is my page http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Khadgar&n=Judgedread hopefully it will help although I know capt and Tommy will think it crappy
#12 Sep 28 2007 at 12:36 PM Rating: Decent
I don't ever say anyones gear choice is crappy... unless it is and Tommy has no say, he's ret =P lol jk. You obviously know what you are doing, the only problem is when it comes to your avoidance. From what I can see, you only have about 86% avoidance with HS up, you need to try to boost that up, you dont need 300 spelldamage, 200 will do fine, so try taking away from that in order to boost up your avoidance.

Yeah Im working on getting a necklace of the deep. I already have a +8 dodge gem for it. I plan on sticking a stam gem in there.

I think I am just gonna grind the hell out of instances until 70. At 68 Im gonna stop and do the quest for Grom'tor's Charge. That should get me to 70. At that point I plan on working on getting a great MT sword.

I swapped some gear. I did get some spell damage, but that was to help with my mana usage. Since I'm basically in warrior tanking gear, I want to be efficient. By boosting even 150 spell damage, I found holding hate easier. I let me hold off on wisdom a bit more. I can also keep hate fine with rank 2 Consecration, and holy shield (well on smaller groups).

For me it works really well. I tend to keep my main target marked with a skull. I change and start swinging on my new skull just before the first dies. As long as I keep SoR up, hate is never lost on my main target. Plus the DPS always knows what to hit.

I would jus tsuggest you read Thels' sticky. And stop putting yourself down, you are much better geared than other Paladins who have come on here putting their gear out. UNfortunately, you are probably going to be switching out a lot of gear as you try to boost your avoidance while keeping your defense and staminas up (though in the process don't be afraid to take away from stamina in order to boost avoidance, it really is that important, however don't avoid it all together)

It's a very fine line you have to tip-toe around to try and make everything else bigger. Just don't focus so much on Spell Damage, and try to get those other ones up, if you play your Tankadin competently you don't need that much.
