The post made by Aethien included how much AP, crit, agility, health, and mana you should have...but did not include how much MP/5.

So I ask, pre-raid, how much MP/5 should you have?

MP5 is a bonus, but the more you have the better, without sacrificing any of your regular stats of course.

~20 from what I have and you should be good.

/agree with Caldone.

MP5 is nice, but I wouldn't prioritize it over other stats. All other things being equal, sure take it. But, if it means, say for example, socketing a MP5 gem over AP/Agi/+Hit/+crit then I don't think it's a good tradeoff.

How much MP5 you should have I think is pretty gear dependent. If you've got a couple pieces that have good stats and the MP5, all the better. But, again, getting gear solely for the MP5 at the expense of more important stats isn't desirable.

As long as you don't do the long fights you won't need MP5 at all.
So for 5mans (both heroic and non-heroic) 0 MP5 should be fine.
Even for the first bosses in Karazhan mana reg is not that big an issue (I'd say up to Curator you should have no trouble without MP5 if you use max 1 mana pot per biss fight). Nightbane, Illhof & Prince might give you some trouble if you have no mana reg at all.

In my current raid gear which is basically everything you can get from Karazhan and Gruuls I have ~ 30 MP5 and mana is never an issue when I use my pots early. I can sustain my mana even through longer fights like Nightbane, Prince or Gruul without big problems (Although I have to use up to 20 mana pots for a full Kara clear if we are low on damage and pallies and I don't have a shadow priest in my group).

Another thing to consider, is if it is going to be a sustained fight, try AotV, or get wis from a Pally

You'll need some sort of mana regen stuff if the fight last for > 5 minutes. There is simply no pre raid fight which last longer than 2 minutes (at least I'm not aware of such a fight).
The best mana reg comes from mana pots. Although very good are mana oils on your weapon(s) and there is a guardian exlixir which gives you 16MP5.

Using AotV gimps your RAP by 155 points and you'll have no improved aspect of the hawk procs.
Chosing pally's wisdom blessing over might or kings further reduces your attack power (220 RAP for might; 10% of your stats with kings).

Pre raid you won't need MP5 or AotV at all (of course using AotV when fighting trash can reduce your downtime, but you won't need it for mana regen).
In Kara you might want some MP5 as it comes relatively cheap on some item drops. You still do not want AotV on DPS fights like Curator, Arran or Prince. You can however use AotV on fights like Netherspite, Nightbane, ... (although I'm doing fine without AotV in those fights).
On Gruul for example mana oils and mana pots are nice for the learning period of that fight. AotV is not an option as that reduces your DPS which makes that fight much harder.

I'd say 10-15 Mp5 is nice, but its in no way needed.
If you get low on mana just chuck another fel mana potion ;)

I recently did a Gruul's raid yesterday, and found that the new AotV works wonders. When I got to low, I'd switch from AotH to AotV, let it build back up while still using just Steady Shot, then switch back. With my current set up, being Survival as well as having the Mark of Conquest Trinket, I was able to regain quite a bit of mana back.

Also, if worse comes to worse, just Feign Death and drink. You take yourself out of combat for maybe 10 seconds to get a little mana back. I've done this during the Prince fights in Kara and had no problem with topping the DPS. Not to be used all the time mind you, but on those rare occassions where you can get away with it, go for it.

At attumen, when holding off aggro when they merge you can drink.
and else, just swallow an extra potion.
Spending a few gold extra is worth downing those bosses, epics dont come for free ;)

In the pre-raid gearing up guide I made for my (ex) Guild, I recommended 15MP/5. And all of the bars given were intended to be rather 'gentle', with the most emphasis being how well the player made what they had work for them.

Quote:
Summary of raiding bars:
1500 RAP, unmodified by your Talents or self-buffs
79 Hit Rating
5500 Mana and 15MP/5
6500 Health

This was a 'step into Kara' bar, with increasing numbers expected for those who wanted to do more than participate in the Attumen fight and be swapped out. Again, performance was the primary focus, as Hunters can be good or bad with the same gear/numbers.
