Well, I didn't feel like a necropost from my original topic, so I made a new one. For soloing while Prot spec'd, which is a better choice; Felsteel Spike or Tough Shield? Thanks again!

For soloing i'de say replace the shield with an offhand or take a 2hander.
But if you must "wield the shield" take spike as for its a damage thingy on block
(its still good for agro issues in instances)

For solo'ing while prot specced get DPS gear and DW. Since you already have the talent for One Handed Weapon Specialization, dual wielding seems a likely choice, at least it works for me. Here is my armory link.Geekstomper. I'm currently in my DPS gear and I'll stay that way until I have to tank again. The only way soloing as protection sucks is when you actually try to solo with your tank gear and Sword (or axe/mace) and Shield. Then its just an tedious grind. The only time I solo'd in my tank gear was in SMV when I need to take out more than one lvl 69-70 mob.

As for which is better? I dunno.
