I've maxed out Alchemy, and I'm thinking about putting together an Alchemist's Stone.
Here's what Wowwiki says about it: "The usefulness of this item becomes more obvious when put into comparison with a regular +XX mana every 5 seconds bonus effect. Consider a long boss fight where you have to spend several Super Mana Potions each time their cooldown (2 min) allows for. As the mana potion will normally replenish an average of 2400 mana and another 960 more with this Stone equipped, this basically translates into the equivalent of +40 mana every 5 seconds. "

I've looked at Aethien's list, and I was wondering where this would fit in. It requires a non-trivial amount of resources - 18 gems, 8 primals, 2 fel lotus, and 5 primal mights, and all of the transmute cooldowns.

Any opinions on whether it would be worth it?

Just my opinion, but I think you'd be better off with a trinket that ups your AP or Crit% or whatever that translates to dps. You can always use mana oil to increase your MP5. You're a lot harder pressed to replace the dps gain you could get from another trinket.

To an extent, blowing consumables is a cost of raiding. Trying to short-cut that cost and in effect gimping your dps isn't a good trade-off, in my opinion.

It would be very much worth it it would allow youto use a shotrotation that does more damage and costs a lot more mana.
Sadly for you, shotrotations are very well doable with a few fel mana pots for 10+ minutes and your stone wouldnt benefit you all that much.

So save yourself the trouble and farm BM for an Hourglass and heroics for the badge trinket ;) (the best possible trinket combo pre-raiding)
