I'm in Shimmering Flats, doing those grinding quests as they also have the added benefit of levelling skinning. I see a rare elite basilisk wandering about, a level 37 beast known as Ironeye the Invincible. I haven't ever been able to tackle an elite that high of level compared to me (33 at the time), but I try. I get him nearly halfway dead before he kills my pet and almost kills me. As I'm licking my wounds, I send a tell in general for help. Another 33 rogue shows up. First attempt, he nearly kills my pet and in a desperate grab for survival, I distracting shot, mend pet, and try to disengage. It doesn't work, the elite kills me. Rogue vanishes. Second attempt, I spam mend pet as soon as it wears off, and almost immediately pull aggro which lasts the entire match and he kills me easily, as well as the rogue. I swear a bit and announce that I'm done trying, but when I rez and the rogue does as well, he stealths up and cheap shots the elite. I can't let him try it alone, so I send my pet in and start hurting him. The rogue holds aggro for a very brief amount of time and then the elite lunges at me. My pet didn't even faze him.

For the rest of the fight, all I did was run away, angled so I was circle strafing, while I did a cycle of concussion shot and arcane shot, serpent sting if it had worn off. For about 3 or so minutes (this method damaged him very slowly as the rogue couldn't catch up, I had Aspect of the Cheetah on to get distance) the boss couldn't catch up to me. Then it resisted a concussion shot so I switched to Aspect of the Monkey and Wing Clipped him. As soon as I got some distance I went back to Aspect of the Cheetah and continued my rotation. Seemed very cheap, but it worked.

Is this a normal hunter tactic? What could I do to tweak my strategy? When the mob closed in, he devastated my health so I was forced to use a health potion and I was still close to death when I got back out of his range.

Edit: I should mention that every attempt at feign death was resisted.

So that's kiting, eh? I'd heard of kiting but never did it myself. Why would the jump shot trick be better? I mean, I was running at full speed ahead when I was strafing him like that. I was practicing jump shots and it seemed like there was large room for error. Probably just need more practice.

Gratz on learning kitting,

little unrelated, but very good info still

BRK

is a very knowledgable BM hunter, with some very very good how to walkthroughs for hunters. i say unrelated beacuse he seems to have lost his kitting trainer, but i would still insist on checking it out. the writing is awsome, and the info is some of the best i can find.
