Hello all,
I have a levle 30ish rogue that has already completed the poisons quest in the westfall tower... however, every guide i read on lockpicking suggest to go to that tower and pick the chest that is beside the elite guy. The problem is that when i mouse over that box, i dont get the option to lockpick, loot, or interact with it in any way. i completed the poison quest, but is there something i missed? or should i be able to pick that chest?

You have to click your lock picking skill and then click the box. It will despawn and then respawn. You should be able to get about 5 picks out of it before the guy respawns.

You can also go to the tower that the horde rogues use in the barrens and pick that chest to your heart's content. I had the same problem and thats what I did.

Well, like AtrophyGFour stated, you have to use your lockpicking skill to open the chest.

Also, it may help if we knew your LP lvl. The poison chests will only take you so far, then you have to move on. A good place for your level would be Durnholde Keep in Hillsbrad. There are some footlockers in the buildings at the bottom for easy picking and don't forget to pickpocket all the humanoids for junkboxes. Speaking of junkboxes, Arathi Highlands has lots of humanoid camps. You got 2 Ogre camps, a Troll camp, the Orc camp (for you alliance guys), and the Kobold cave up by Hammerfall.

You should get quite a few junkboxes to skill up LP and don't forget all of the poison regants you'll get inside.

Happy Hunting!

Pick Pocket macro

you'll get so many junkboxes you'll never have to worry about skilling LP again

My favorite place for leveling lockpicking on both factions between levels 20 and 30 is the boxes scattered around Zoram Strand in Ashenvale. The nagas are easy kills as long as you don't let them run for help and there always seems to be plenty of boxes respawning. After the Zoram boxes turn green on me, I found that the boxes off the coast of Desolace (in the Naga area) are pretty good though you really need underwater breathing potions. My level 40-50 area is the boxes around Sunken Temple though sometimes you have to wait a bit for some to respawn and breathing potions are a must. I also recently found that the gate in Searing Gorge at the tunnel to Loch Modan is orange skill to my level 49 Rogue so I'll use that for a while if I don't find a new area with boxes soon.

The junkboxes do work well too and I find that even green ones give me a fair number of skillups.

Pick-pocketing is the way to go. You'll be able to level your skill and get items (like blinding powder) that you'll find useful. Make sure you keep your lock picking up to your level cap, so that you'll always be able to open the boxes that you pick-pocket while leveling.

The alternative is to just ask the rogue trainer. There are always locked boxes somewhere that you can use to skill your lock picking.

I refused to wait for the box from the poison quest to respawn. The other methods are far more efficient for leveling your skill.

Don't forget about the doors in Scarlet Monastery. Both the Cathedral and Armory doors can be picked and reset and increase your lockpicking. Also, the doors in BRD increase your lockpicking.

After the poison quest, I believe I used the boxes in lake in Redridge.

But I agree with everyone else...Pick Pocketing is a must for a Rogue. You get some nice stuff.

I think that he might not have a thiefs tool... See if you have one. if not go buy one then you should get the icon to open locked boxes even if they are red for you.

Another thing you may want to do is find a pair of Dark Leather gloves. They increase your lock picking by +5 when you wear them. I have a pair with a +2 fishing Enchant on mine.

While you're in Searing Gorge, inside the Cauldron are a ton of footlockers. You have to go inside the gated area. I think I got my skill up to 265 - 270 there.

A great place after that is the Scarlet camp in EPL south of Light's Hope Chapel. I got from 275 - 300 there.
