PvP: Combat or Mutilate ?Follow

#1 Sep 24 2007 at 11:06 PM Rating: Decent
Hi,
forgive me if i post a topic that is old story for you, but i'm still learning.
I'm lvl 49 and I'd like to change talent distribution (I'm just an hybrid, but I can't decide.
I do not like sub.-tree (well, I know it should be THE PvP tree, but...)

What do you suggest me ? Combat dagger (I have dagger) or Mutilate ? Just for PvP, lvl 49 ?
Thank you.

Take Mutilate. Your opponents will be REALLY surprised if they see a level 49 rogue doing a mutilate.

Smiley: lol Smiley: schooled

OP, you can't go Mut at 49, since it's a 41 point talent.

Combat daggers is pretty awful (in fact, I'd say it's almost as bad as hemo daggers) for PvP.

I'd help you come up with a spec, but the only dagger spec I've ever played was combat daggers back when I had Perd's/CHT. Easily 80% of my raiding was done with swords, and all of my PvP was done with swords.

Yes, no Mutilate for a lvl 49.

YOu say that combat dagger is awful compared to sward. Why ?
I'm not a twink, and every weapon/armour I get is a strong work. The best weapon I've found is from Warsong (no way for me to spend hundreds gold for weapon/armour in AH).
Daggers have little less damage than sword. True. But dagger spec IMO is better than sword spec. 5% to get an extra attack sounds fine, but it's 1 every 20. +5% critics is summed up to your existing critical strike rating.

But, returning to main question, lvl 49 combat or mutilate ?

+5% crit is also 1 every 20.

Combat daggers have weak CP generation and weak survivability on top of weak PvP damage.

Mut is a good PvP spec because it has incredible CP generation.

Combat swords is a good PvP spec because it's a non-positional attack and isn't crit-reliant.

Sword Spec is more damage than Dagger Spec, it's a simple fact.

You say: +5% crit is also 1 every 20.
No, it isn't, bacuse THIS +5% is ADDED to your critical hit rating you already have, helping to get criticals. Obvioulsluy, IMO.

The other replay:
Combat daggers have weak CP generation and weak survivability on top of weak PvP damage.
Mut is a good PvP spec because it has incredible CP generation.

I agree. I'll go mutilate after reaching lvl 55 (at least. That's why I've got dagger). But we're speaking of a lvl 49 (!). No mutilate jet.
At lvl 49 you can't get the final talent of neither tree. So, which one would you choose ?

Combat Swords, hands down.

Pffff.
Indeed, +5% crit is 1 extra crit every 20 hits...
Just like the sword spec is 1 extra attack every 20 hits.

So both give you a "bonus" once every 20 hits. I still don't get why you think the dagger spec is better.

First think, I really do not want to flame, just an amusement talk !

I was thinking this (correct me if I'm wrong)

- 5% to get an additional strike: is 1 in 20. That's it.

- +5% to critical: if you still have (let's say) 20% to critic, an additional 5% will take you to a total of 25%, making critical strike more probable. I prefer an increase in critical strike rating (little by little, taking critic % higher) than a stand alone 1 in 20 strike.

I really do not know if daggers are better than swords (lot to learn !). Usually swords have better DPS (slightly). I have found good daggers and I'm waiting lel 55 to get mutilate.
Well, I'm still thinking if mutilate is better than combat in PvP (HELP !!)

Sword specialization has the added ability to crit on either hit.

Lonerwing, these guys are giving you sound advice. If you want to understand why, then maybe that's what you should be asking. However, the response is gonna be a bit longer and more convoluted.

If you are going to hang out in the 49 bracket for a bit, I would also like to add to the previous posts and suggest that not only should you go sword spec, but you should use the thrash blade (lvl 45 quest reward for killing the princess in mara) and pick up a quick off hand sword. When I was lvl 45, I picked that up and also some lvl 45 blue on the ah for ~10g. Not only will that serve you well in bgs, but when you continue to lvl, you will do just fine til mid 50s (especially if they are enchanted).

I play a 48 rogue currently, so far my vigor spec works http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=fhecoxusVzZG 34-5-0, I know, fairly cookie cutter
I'd take 2 points from imp SS and put them elsewhere for long-term PvPing.

Im using Widowmaker in my main hand, but I think the lvl 48 Scout's Blade is just as good for backstab.

Thats about as close as your getting to Mutilate at lvl 49.

Thanks guys !
I really appreciate all of your suggestions.
I'll try to get thrash blade, if I could organize a group.
Bye !

Critical strike is good, but is way overrated.
You are forgetting, that that extra attack can also crit.
on top of that, it can prob weapon effects( drool, imagine sword spec proccing thrash blade's proc, TRIPLE HIT!!!)

5% crit, increases your chance to crit by 1 out of 20.
so you choose, either 1/20 extra chance to crit, or an 1/20 chance to get an extra attack which can ; crit/proc and apply a potion.

i would say the best pvp spec, is combat mace, with combat swords being a close second(but really, swords are fine too)

i wouldn't advise you to go 40 points in Assasination, i would respec after lvl 50.

i know this sounds funny, but at that level i think the best pvp spec is subtetly.
low hp, no resillience....yeah subtetly can probably do what its supposed to do at 70

either subtely, or Combat IMO

ps. is the triple hit as said above even possible?:P
