so, yeah, if you check my Armory database as Tolsimir, I'm set up to tank. I'm swapping to Holy for the purpose of Heroics an Kara.

No, I'm not going to regail you with my tales of sorrow as a paladin tank.
In return I don't expect anybody to go "omg pld tanks rock, stay prot!"
If you really -must- debate the merits of a paladin tank endgame, make a thread about it and link me to it, but this isn't the place for it.

k? k.

I have, also, gone through to the effort of gathering and cataloging to-be-gathered gear, and laying out a potential spec, so I'm not just saying "omg can I copy u plz?"

so I'd appreciate any consideration, advice, suggestions(especially suggestions), personal experience, etc, that you might have. =3

Disclaimers:
-I have all the gear shown, unless stated otherwise.
-This is pre-endgame gear, in prep for the Big Time. Please, no suggestions of Kara, Heroic or 25ManRaid gear. Thanks.
-"go to wowhead noob" is not an acceptable response, and will get you @#%^ing slapped. Been there, done that, wouldn't be here if I hadn't. consider yourself warned. ^_^

Well here goes, I aint a healer but I'm bored and know enough about it so I feel I can warrant a good enough response. (And I am a tank and Paladin tanks do rock :P)

First off, it's been said enough but a good guideline is here (to quote the FAQ)

To heal in Kara, 1200 healing, 15% crit, and 70mp5 is a good starting point. Every raid after that requires a little more, you should probably ask your guild what they want you to be at for further instances.

It doesnt really matter what gear you get, but going for that ^^ is a good starting point. I would replace all of the dmg/healing gear you have with pure healing or other stats that you might need to be filled.

A better helmet you should look for is the Mask of Pennance which drops off of Mekgineer Steamrigger in the Steamvaults.

I would look up specs in the FAQ as well, I have a couple healing specs in there for different situations.

Just 3 Suggestions on gear. I understand you have to start somewhere so these are some of the items you should look to aquire,

1) ***** that headpiece, get the Mask of Penance. It owns, and put the head healing enchant on it to.

2) For your second trinket. Black Morass drop, Scarab of the Infinite Cycle

3) This is probably WAY to late to get(being Prot you may have sold the reward) but that one quest you do right outside the Mana Tombs gives you the Consortium Plated Legguards, they are a pretty sweet pair for only being a quest reward. IF you can still get them, gem them up nice and use them over the Khorium Pants

OH and if you PvP, which I hope you do, work on getting the Non Set PvP Epics, the Boots, Belt and Bracers, they are great and not to hard to get. Then when you start raidng you can grab true PvE gear to replace them with and save them for PvP Play.

Do specs factor into bonus healing at all?

As my gear stands, I have approximately 750 bonus healing. I ask for specific gear targets because the upgrades I can find are marginal; 2-5 bonus healing that wouldn't add up to anything significant. I'm just not sure if there's anything critical I'm missing.

Anyway, thanks, I'll get on after that mask. =3

The only talent that gives direct bonus healing is Holy Guidance which increases damage/healing by 35% of your int.

And Spell Healing gear tends to be double Spell Damage/healing gear, so there is a big difference as you add all of them up. 750 healing is realy not good enough to heal kara or heroics.

750 +Healing is a decent base to start with for healing non-heroic 5 mans. you will increase that in no time.

Yeah, 35% bonus of your INT goes to damage and healing.

Get Enchants. You can increase INT on your bracers, Weapon and Shield, get Healing on those Gloves when you get them. Get all Rep enchants, Head and Shoulders. Alot of people will say dont waste the mats or money, but you may take awhile before you get a certain item, i've learned this. Just do it. You can do Daily Quests to get money easy.

Food and pots are important!, Golden Darters can be fished in the Terokkar Forest, Wisdom Elixer and Healing Power Pots work great. You can use these to boost your low =healing until you are around 1000 unbuffed., 1000 is perfectly fine for non heroic 5 mans

And Don't lose hope with the Mask if you have trouble, took me like 13-14 runs to get mine.

I'll most deffinitely keep the Healing/Spell damage thing in mind. The gear I've shown has simply been at or near the top of the Wowhead +healing filter, though I'm sure there's better out there.

Enchants and gems will be easy for me to get; my beau is a JC/Enchanter. I supply him gems, he cuts them for me. >=p

I've looked at the PVP rewards, and it looks like some of them are well over double my current healing roles. I don't generally PVP, and haven't since I tried to do it as a prot paladin (lul.), but I'll give it another go. Maybe re-spec healing first so I'm good for something other than consecrating or running flags.

Crystal pulse shield is a better shield imo. On my server 30-60 is what it costs for more healing and more int so definitely is an upgrade.

If you were willing to level tailoring i personally recomend doing so, for the three bop epic set. Yes it is cloth.

If you don't want to level tailoring, but are willing to wear cloth, then i would recomend whitemend set. Each piece costs about 1k gold on my server, but they will not be upgraded by any stretch of the imagination any time soon.

Also the sha'tar exalted mace is 299 helaing and you will not upgrade that for a while which means you could put major healing(300-55g in mats on my server) on it and be assured it would last a while.

The pvp gloves can be gotten in 3-5 weeks of arena and it takes less than 1 hour a week investment.(My gloves currently are green plate with 92 healing and no other stats.)

The kamaei's cerulean skirt is insane if you can pick it up and do not mind non-plate of course.

I have no objection to non-plate items. I do like rep bought items; generally, much easier to obtain than drop grinding.

Right now I'm working on buying my epic mount, but I'll most definitely look into the Whitemend set, thanks. =3

There are a great set of plate pants available from the Dimensius the All-Devouring chanin in Netherstorm.

http://thottbot.com/i30299 <---Starcaller's Plated Legguards

Toss a golden spellthread on there, and they will last until the Kara chess event legs.
