I just dinged 40 and im currently holy but I was wondering what spec I should be to level the fastest to 70 (I instance alot more than questing)

I haven't hit 40 yet, but after lurking for a while in these forums I can suggest using the Prot spec. This allows for some pretty good grinding and good tanking ability, which would come in handy for instances. Holy could probably be good too, but I expect the consensus to be Prot.

I would have suggested Ret if you prefered questing over instances, though.

I love protection for levelling for various reasons. Key reasons I recommend it are :-

* Get reckoning asap and it'll up your dps/kill rate quite nicely

* You should still be able to heal easily without healing talents in instances all the way up to Outlands (even better - start gathering any healing gear you may find though not sure there's much until BRD/DM etc)

* You can tank nicely with protection and survive longer solo (great for quests)

* Once you get Holy Shield Talents etc. you can become a very efficent AOE grinder or AOE tank.. this is great for grinding rep, kill quests or just mobs for money/loot etc.

My main point would be though is to enjoy your levelling but i had a blast with protection and the excitement and fun of having huge numbers of mobs on me at once and slashing my way through them with my sword & shield :)
