BM spec thinking of going MM specFollow

#1 Sep 18 2007 at 10:46 AM Rating: Default
Hey guys, I want to get your opinions on the BM spec and MM spec from a pvp BGs point of view.

I'm currently speced BM 41/20.Been that way since BC from 60-70lvl.Orginally i started in the MM tree from 1-60lvl.I did pretty decent, but once i entered outlands i noticed BM spec worked alot better for me.

I never was really into BGs untill now,and i want to work on getting the fullset of warlords' gear.Problem is i find myself dying fairly quickly, hence i want the gear (mine kinda sucks)LOL...God damn dwarfs and gnomes....</evilgrin>

Just wondering if i switched back to MM spec play style would i fair better?I would like to hear especially from MM spec BG players...Caldone?? I know you swear by MM spec,LOL

Your thoughts please....all info / opinons welcomed
Thanks and happy hunting...

Go MM :P

That being said BM is currently the highest DPS spec available (I arggue but the numbers prove otherwise) and if you know how to play it well, keep with it.

I love MM in BG's due to the Silence/Scatter avail.

Like Caldone said...Silencing Shot ftw!

In my opinion, this is one of the best talents possible for BG PvP'ing. I'm sure there are many times casters have cursed at their monitors after I silenced them at a key moment.

I don't have experience with BM or SV deep specs, but I don't think you'd go too wrong going MM for BGs. In my experience, pets tend to have less utility against human opponents than they do against mobs. So, I could see where a lot of the benefits of BM spec might be lost in a PvP environment. I say this with the qualification that I'm not BM or SV spec.

MM is a great spec for BG's and PvP in general.

I used to love having scatter shot and silencing shot to shut them dam casters down. But, if you can pull your Agility up, Survival isn't to bad for PvP either.
Granted I went Survival for Raid purposes and I am just to damn cheap to keep respec'ing. Smiley: lol

Go MM with a side of SV. Deterrence and silencing shot are hands-down the two best PVP hunter talents. Plus, you can up your own HP a bit.

If I wasn't going for big DPS for solo and 5-man grinding, I'd be MM/SV but I'm MM/BM

Yeah I would have to concur(even though I am not level 70, I read a lot lol). The only plus for BM in BG's seems to be Bestial Wrath, which is good. But it would seem to me that to be able to silence casters would seem like a much better overall ability.

Hell I was thinking about going MM for silencing shot, for some much needed revenge on ice mages, that I owe them for easily taking out my warrior.

And after reading the thread about BM->SV it would seem that MM/SV is the way to go for PvP

If you're looking at it from purely a PvP perspective, then you need to drop those BM skills and get them into SV. Deterrence is extremely valuable to PvP, because it can boost your dodge rating up above 50% for 10 seconds. Pair that up with the Survivalist talent and Resilience gear, and you've got yourself one tough hunter.

Also, consider how much you actually autoshot in BGs. is 6% chance to DAZE worth three talent points (concussive barrage)? And Combat Experience isn't usually looked at as a valuable talent, especially since PvP gear doesn't focus on Agility or Intellect. I'd suggest to take those 5 talents and put them into Improved Concussive Shot. 20% chance to stun is 1 in 5 Conc shots- it's a beautiful thing when you stun the flag carrier in WSG, or stop someone in their tracks for 3 seconds in general.

In my opinion: Go MM for PvP,
Its the highest dps PvP spec (yes, thats a lot different from pve dps) because of the big shots.
That is, if you know how to kite.
Silencing shot and scatter shot are also things that really help you in PvP.

And although i am not a pvp fan, i would spec like this (0/42/19) for PvP with a pet without a focus dump.
Or (0/42/19) with a pet with focus dump.

Aside from battlegrounds, you might want to keep working on running dungeons.

Why? For starters, you hit 350 engineering. If you can get a primal nether, and the materials, you can make your awesome goggles. :) And you can put a metagem in that which could be useful for you in PVP. But that does mean either being really lucky in a regular dungeon, or running a heroic.

Also, dungeons could give you some better rings and maybe a necklace. Of course there's a PVP necklace but exactly how long are you going to be running BGs? Thousands and thousands of honour... *eek* Oh, there's a pretty good PVP ring which you can get from lots of those spirit shards from Auchindoun dungeons, too.

Is the full set of Warlord's gear worth getting? I am using two pieces of the epic battleground gear, which are really nice, but not part of a set. They may be more honour/piece, but last you longer.

BG epics + good lvl 70 blues should be enough to start Arena's, although some pieces of the pvp set arent bad ofcourse ;)

Hey guys, Just a quick update.. I went and spec'ed MM 43/18. Same spec as Caldone. Done a few BGs sofar now and starting to really enjoy my choice.

Wierd. I'm MM and love the pvp, but was thinking of switching to BM. I need 3 more points to get silencing shot, but not sure it's worth it. I mean I guess it's good against other classes, but friggin hunters....once their pet intimidates me and then is immune to stuns/scare, I'm toast. Hunters seem to know this and come after me, making me want to change even though, MM might be better against other classes. Or maybe I'm doing something wrong, that's entirely possible, since I am still "l2play" my hunter.

EDIT

I was commenting about the 1 point into improved stings, but I didn't notice that it is needed to go on to the next level on the talent tree

SWEET!!

Score 1 for me!

That being said, please learn to use the spec to it's fullest. People say that MM is the easy build that takes no skill to play, I would have to argue that. MM spec, more specifically when you dump points into SV as well like I have, takes alot of practice to use it to it's full potential.

Also, the reason I dump points were I did, is because I needed the extra health for raiding, and the one trash point I put into Imp stings as opposed to Imp Arcane, as I felt it would lead to more overall damage, as arcane shot I hardly use anymore.

FYI, my build is also not entirely unique, I grabbed it from a thred somewere about the MM raiding spec, I just adjusted points differently, though thinking of doing a respec to take the 2 points out of entrapment and putting them into Imp. WC, as I am doing alot more arena, and I have not seen entrapment proc except maybe once in AV.

Grats on the MM spec, I hope you find it as fun as I do.

entrapment = crap
And i never said MM is the easy spec (if any is, its BM) i just say its the worst spec for raiding ;)

And for Arena/BG's i would spec 0/42/19.
(move 2 points from GftT to imp. arcane if you use a pet without focus dump)

I basically cut out effeciency (for imp. concussive), Rapid killing (for imp. arcane), Careful Aim (for imp. stings), monster slaying (to imp. wingclip) and clever traps (to survivalist) from a MM 5-man/heroic build.

I know this is an MM loving thread, but I might as well throw in a little BM love.

There's alot of talk about Silencing shot being the best pvp talent? It's good against locks, mages, pallys, shammys and priests. Sounds good, but what about hunters, rogues, warriors? The pros outweigh the cons right? So what's the problem? Intimidation. The stun effect is just as long as the silencing effect. Now let's see who's weak to stun. Locks, pallys, shammys, priests, hunters, rogues, and warriors. I'm only excluding the mage assuming he's smart enough to save blink for such the occassion. The only thing that I'm not 100% sure about is Pally and the bubble. I know they can bubble out of intimidate. I'm pretty sure they can bubble out of silencing shot, but it's been a while since I've been MM, so it's hard telling.

Next, Beastial Wrath. That is just.... amazing. Immune to... EVERYTHING basically. (Movement/CC wise. 90% of the posters know what it does =p) That's nice against soo many classes. I may be a little biast here, but I love my BM/SV spec. BM of course for the essentials, and SV for the Imp. Wing clip, Extended traps, 10% health and 15% chance to resist movement effects. (once your 18 seconds are up from BW) The only thing I do miss from the MM tree is the crit, crit bonus, imp. Conc. Shot, aimed shot, and of course scatter shot. But again from a pvp perspective crit is nice... except when you're up against people with 400+ resil. Aimed shot... well, this has been mentioned alot, but it's very rare to find a moment when you can use it. Imp Conc. shot is a 20% chance to stun, which is amazing. I miss that along with Scatter shot, but eh, to me BM pros outweigh the MM pros.

Again, I know this is an MM thread, but hey, you're better off knowing both sides of the story from different people.

Biggest problem with intimidate... it requres your pet to be right there with the mob, what if it gets feared? Silencing shot can be thrown out alot quicker and more eliable than intimidate.

and besides silencing, MM also has scatter shot as well as higher damage shots then BM and a nicely beefed up multi shot.
And TSA is actually pretty decent in pvp becuase keeping eithe FI or EW up is a lot harder with targets that are highly unpredictable and dont have a wellgeared prot warrior taking the hits ;)
