Just wanted to thank Eon one more time for this awesome post. I set this up this weekend, and at first it was awkward and I couldn't kill a mob my own level in a tight space without looking at the top of my head and nearly dying, now I am melting faces right and left and barely moving my hands.

Excellent post!

I wanted to thank Eon for this excellent post and share my own mapping with the group.

I use Bartender3, so its easy to remap. Its under keybindings in the main options menu of WoW (escape).

Personally what I did was use the following, maybe it will help someone also:

MM Click and Ctrl+MM Click are different attacks. This is true stealthed or unstealthed - that way if I middle click alone it will try and attack. MM Up is my CP builders for MM Up and Ctrl+MM Up. MM Down and Ctrl+MM Down are my finishers. Alt+Anything are my 'Oh ****' buttons - Stealth, Vanish, Sprint. I made, for instance, Stealth and Unstealth are both Alt+MM Up. Works GREAT.

I also added a bit - keys 1 - 5 are my less common CP builders and finishers. Alt 1 - 5 are my pots. F equips my main hand dagger and Shift+F equips my main hand sword; this is dead handy as I stealth up with my dagger and Ambush then Shift+F my sword.

Personally I'm still working out a few details. I want to see if I can MM Right and Left so I can add another 6 keybindings, things that are even less commonly used than my normal MM keys but more so than 1 - 5.

I did find out, to my dissapointment, that I cannot keybind Alt/Ctrl/Shift-Left and Right mouse, which would have been my preference for changing weapons.

Brilliant, I do the strafing and mouse turning all the time, but never had any clue what-so-ever about binding the keys to the wheel!
Brilliant post, thanks alot, really helps my Rogue!

Just wanted some opinions on this.

Which is worse, key-turning (but not clicking abilities) or attempting to mouse-turn with a laptop trackpad?

The obvious answer is lrn2usbmouse. My last wireless mouse was stolen and have yet to replace it. Granted, key-turning sucks, I leveled to 40ish with my mouse and had to proceed without it from that point.

IMO trackpad is worse than key-turning, but I wonder what others think.

I have a question regarding stealthed versus non-stealthed key bindings.

I am using the default Blizzard UI and I wasn't aware there was a way to bind same keys for different abilities.

How is this accomplished?

For instance: how would you bind Alt+ mouse wheel up for two different abilities based on which stance you were in?
#87 Nov 29 2007 at 9:58 AM Rating: Default
Omfg, R is the REPLY BUTTON. I use that all the time, good guide, but im still sceptical.. i could never get used to turn my mousewheel up and down all the time..

And, how do you make enough room for the abilities on your mousewheel?
1-5 buttons, 3*+shift, 3*normal, 3*+alt. That makes 14, and the hotbar is on 10 places for abilities??
Help.

Ok, for the last two posters, since your questions are basically the same.

When you are not in stealth you have a hot bar that is defaulted to the numbers and = and such. You put your non stealth attacks there (mutilate, backstab, sinister strike, ect.) Then you hit stealth, and that hot bar will change. Now you put your openers, distract and pickpocket in there, which gives you the ability to use the same binding for two different action, ie, stealth + scroll up = cheap shot, where as non-stealth + scroll up = mutilate.

In regards to r being your auto reply, I found a good substitute is to hit / which automatically pulls up your text window, and then as soon as you type r and space it will reply to the last tell.

If I wrote a general guide, I'd get even more PM's from people saying "Hu? How do u liek keybind ur keys?"

And a favorite of mine, "TBH i do fine with my 12345 attacks."

LoL...I remember the 12345 guy.

I agree that this is beneficial to all classes. I shared it with my guild and a lot of other classes thought it was a great idea. I have been playing an Undead 'lock alt up to 20 to recap is crafting and got annoyed with the click since I hadn't done this with him. Now he has:

Scroll up = Corruption
Scroll down = Curse of agony
Click = Pet attack
Shift Scroll up = Immolate
Shift Scroll down = Shadow bolt
Shift click = Wand

Feels so much better. Once again Eon, I thank you for curing me of my clicker/keyboard turner ways. Rate up!!

I have a question that I'm afraid is gonna frustrate the heck out of ya. But am I the only one that actually finds a need to be able to quickly scoll further in or further out sometimes during a fight? Is this the difference between pvp and pve, maybe?

For example just recently in Sethekk halls, I had at least 3 fights where I was suddenly in a position where a banner or some such non-sense was completely blocking my view of the fight and it of course happens mid-fight when it happens.

this is great !!! i have started to try and learn to keybind and mouse turn. my one problem is that i play left handed. does anyone out there have a great left handed setup? i am currently 49 combat sword spec. any help would be great !

on an added note.. sorry i am new to this posting but how do you "rate up" someone or someones post? i assume it is some kind of scoring system that marks post from decent to excellent?

ok. top of the page is my nub "im left handed" post. good times.

If you mean mouse goes in your left hand, like me, then:

J - sinister strike / hemo = right index finger
K - kick
L - SnD
N - wotf or trinket
U - deadly throw
I - expose armor
O - rupture
M - shadowstep or blade flurry or whatever
P - eviscerate
/ - stealth
etc....
I moved tab target to H.

all my oh **** buttons are on lower right action bar, using alt:
alt J - evasion
alt K - sprint
alt L - blind
alt I - vanish
alt P - cloak of shadows
etc....

Then movement is space = forward, ; = strafe left, ' = strafe right, [ = jump. I strafe with my pinky. This gives me full access to all my action buttons while strafing (except P and jump. so i have to stop moving to CloS).

Try something like this out. I like it cause my J key has a little bump on it so I can set my right hand in the proper place with out looking.

this is really just a bumb because this post is so great but....
im about to start (my laptops due on wed), should i start off with this strat right off? or should i wait until i actually have a good amount of skills...what i mean is, is there much point in harassing my hands before i have enough skills for it to be necessary?
as for circle strafing/mouse turning etc., i've been doing this for years (rogue on EQ, mage on LoA) so im really not worried, but can you not turn even faster by say turning right (E atm) and mouse turning right at the same time? thats what i did on loa, but i dunno if that's even necessary here...
Edit: also, thanks for linking dark legacy, i've never seen them before, very funny stuff

You won't turn faster by using your mouse in conjunction with your turn keys, but you can adjust your mouse sensitivity to be as quick as you like.

And yes, I would recommend that you start using hot-keys and intuitive keymapping from the start. It's a good habit, but it does require some practice. Better to start early.

I also want to note that there's actually a lot less real-life movement using this setup. That means less muscle tension and wrist contorting etc etc.

It's not just good, it's good FOR you.

Good luck.

I just discovered the Mouseover Macros concept, and find this one handy, if you want to try one out. I found some posts on the 'Net regarding these, but some didn't work for some reason, and they vaguely mentioned that a patch had changed how they work. Me, I have no idea if that was why! Anyhow, I managed to get one to work, finally, so here’s my very simple Mouseover “Blind” example……

1. Make a new Macro called ‘Blind’ containing the script:

/cast [target=mouseover] Blind

2. Hit ESC, Open Keybindings Window and tick the ‘Character Specific Key Bindings’ box. This will bind your chosen key to
the character you are currently using, and NO OTHER alt. (I use the exact same key for my Warlock 'Fear' too)

In the game’s Chat Box type the following, using the keyboard symbol or letter you wish to use (I use the ‘\’ key at the
left of the Z key, but use the tilde key or whatever suits you) The quotes are necessary on the line below...

/script SetBindingMacro("\", "Blind")

Then just press the ENTER key.

Voila – you can merely mouse over a nearby target and hover just long enough to press the key you assigned to the Mouseover macro. No muss, no fuss Smiley: smile

NOTE: Doing this stops you fighting your ACTUAL target, so immediately press your normal attack key to recommence the fight while the other target runs away. I want to fix this if I can.

What a load of bollox, i tried the mouse turning once and didn't get on with it.
i use a razor copperhead mouse and a good keyboard set to high sensitivity and i can click with mouse and turn with keyboard a lot faster than mouse turning, thats my pref.
I lvl'd 1-70 that way with very little death.

Seriously, a decent mouse can turn you faster than the keyboard and speed is everything. Sure you can level to 70 without much problem but when you get to raiding and arenas, you need to be at the top of your game. Any improvement will reap benefits.

I only got turned on to keybindings three weeks ago and it took some getting used to but now I can see how much easier it is not to have to point at the next skill I want to use, then click on it, then think about where I'm moving to.

Btw, no apologies for necro - this lesson is good enough that it should be on everyone's minds.
