I have an interesting twist. I am left handed. Since the birth of the internet (I am old enough to have witnessed first-hand... Al Gore wasnt there), I have been using my mouse with my left hand. Now to WOW, moving using the arrow keys, mouse with left hand creates two awkward problems. First, right hand moving on arrows = little access to the rest of the keyboard. Second, left hand on mouse means index finger turning, middle finger using mouse wheel => my middle finger is way worse at operating the mouse wheel. Now, after 15 years, I have have to conform and move the mouse to my right hand... all because I want to give the Allies a taste of the spinning vortex of death.
Awesome post. Now I am not nearly as impressed with those 19 twink WSG aces who can rip me apart while I struggle just to keep them in front of me.

In your case I would reccommend hand transplants.

Possibly try a different spot on the keyboard (first though comes to the exact opposite of AWSD, thus meaning LP;' for movement.)

actually i just had a DUH. I could simply map turning to the left mouse button, leaving the wheel for my index finger. I played with it, and after two decades, the mouse is firmly in my left hand.

I watched a few youtube videos (search "pvp rogue" or "arena rogue" or any number of possibilities), to get a feel for what this should look like from the users perspective (as opposed to the rogue getting pwned perspective...which I am familiar with). I cant believe how fast it is. Somehow these rogues are flying around their target while SS, KS, Gouge, Mut, Evis all seem spam off with impossible speed creating a spinning vortex of death (thats the phrase im sticking with, like it or not).
I have a hell of a learning curve in front of me.
I noticed in the 19 twink videos, some of them seemed to be all keyboard movement (including strafes), while camping their mouse over SS. Granted this is much slower than mouse turning, but still much faster and more effective than anything I can do yet.
You had to go and make my world larger and more uncomfortable.. I was perfectly happy owning mobs and thinking I was the s@%t.

Level 19 twinks can get away with that because they have no abilities. Seriously. Try popping Cloak of shadows, deadly throw, vanish, sprint, cheap shot, cold blood, and muti in rapid fire succession.

Just keep practicing. You'll start pwning.

Yesterday I finally came around to re-bind my keys. I tried it the bongo way but what I encountered is that when I tried to bind abilities that where on for instance bar 3 space 7 the binding would also be for bar 1 space 7.

Is there a way to bind keys to bars that are not visible?

Great post, rate up.

The mouse part is especially useful (since the keyboard part was, to me, more obvious and already in place).

I must admit I wasn't using the wheel for anything else than zooming, so a big improvement here. Just to say that, while you might not need an "8-button mouse", having a cheap 20$ Logitec mouse with two additional thumb buttons really helps, cause your thumb is there anyway and is a very mobile finger.

I think that controlling as many actions as possible through the mouse is very smart because hitting keys for those actions on the keyboard would otherwise reduce your mobility (more or less depending on how good you are with your keybinding, but it still would). So if you can do yourself a favor and buy a mouse with those two extra thumb-buttons, do.

It appears that bongos references a separate bar to load abilities into bar one when you get in stealth. In your case, its referencing bar three. There's some menu within bongos that allows you to change which bar gets referenced, and you can also uncheck visibility for any bar using the visibility menu.

Mine.

Now that I linked it... I realize that I have two more "buttons", since moving the wheel to the left or right are two more "buttons". I love my mouse more and more, and it's not even alive. Good I don't have a cat, I would propose to her.

Using mousewheel clicks can be a bit tricky because you'll often accidentally scroll up or down a tiny bit while trying to click. I've since gone on to limit the MM-click since I wrote the original guide.

Absolutely. I have also stopped using the wheel to click, since it tended to "wheel" at the same time. Moving the wheel to left or right however might be doable without having the same problem. I'll try it tonight.

Well atm I only use 1 bar and use shift+1 shift+2 etc to swap between bars. Perhaps thats why it goes wrong. I will try setting abilitties in different bongo bars and hiding those. Thanks for the heads up.

btw this is mine. Ive been stuck on a trackball since Quake 1.

Hi, after reading this guide i have been searching for addons that lets say if you have stealth you cheapshot or if you dont have stealth you mutilate etc. Are there any addons that actualy give a setting if stealthed and unstealthed or do i have to macro my buttons?

Thx in advance

You really don't even need a mod to do that. Just make sure that those two abilities wind up in the same slot. Say cheapshot would be in slot 3 on your stealth bar, and mutilate would be in slot 3 on your "unstealthed" bar.

But, if you DO want to get a bar mod, I recommend:
1) bongos - a barmod with easy keybinding
OR 2) Bartender - a barmod with greater customization options.

Great thread Eon! I used to think I had put a fair amount of customization into my keybindings but I completely forgot about being able to ****/ctrl my mouse wheel. I was also always under the impression that "mouse turning" meant holding down both left & right mouse buttons to run around.

This has completely awoken me to the different options I have available and shattered a few myths in the process. Rate up!

I lose count of my spinning with a good wrist flick. The jump and spin is at least 4 rotations.

Yeah, I spent too many years rocking counter-strike.

Edit: I'm a ******

Eon can you explain how you bound your keys. Ive tried binding them through bongos, but through bongos it is actionbar dependable. I like to bind abilities to my mouse that I dont have in the actionbar.

This is an amazing write-up. I recently started leveling my rogue closer to 29 for some BG action. She was a 19 twink for a while, then I wanted more.

I came here looking for tips on how to be better at PVP when I'm not on my hunter.

Needless to say the mouse keybindings alone will even help me when I'm on my main.. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I actually encourage people sticking with 12345 keys, especially if you're playing on European servers. That makes less competition.

To the others, more inovation friendly rogues: do remap your keys. I've done it last week, entirely (I now have 18 various actions on my mouse, woot!). Sure, I was playing like sh*t for 1 hour, like a noob for 1 day and not perfectly for 1 week. It does take time to change such habits. But now that I'm again at full speed, I can tell how much better I have become.
