As a weaponsmith would maces or swords be better? I know the swords are fast but would that hurt my DPS compaired to slower swords? Is the mace worth doing if I plan on going raiding?
Mace by far. The mace you get is 2.7 with very nice dps and haste proc. The sword is 1.6 speed which is not good for main hand or offhand really.
It's actually not "mace by far". It goes down to personal preference. Most go maces, 'cause the 2.7 truly is a big deal. Alot of serious PvE raiders go swords for blazeguard or some variation of it. And you're wrong, it's still decent for an OH.
in other words, probably mace for pvp and sword for pve. altho you could easily adapt the mace to pve too.
Latro's is better than both the T1 and T2 blacksmithing sword.
