The Pacifier

It's nice DPS for when I hit 32, I picked it up pretty cheap (12g). My only question is, does it seem too slow? Weapon speed of 4.0.

I'm leveling as ret currently, my weapon right now is Dense Triangle Mace. I may keep running RFK to try getting my hands on a Corpsemaker, but PUG's haven't been working so hot in there lately, and its nearly the same speed (3.8 vs. 4.0).

The Pacifier is easily the best weapon out of the three you listed in every way imaginable.

When considering Seal of Command, you want the slowest possible weapon. That will give the seal a higher percent chance to proc per swing as well as yielding more damage per proc since slower weapons have higher weapon damage per hit, which is what Seal of Command's damage is derived from.

That, imo, is an ideal weapon for Ret, you'll proc SoC more (Atleast, it will look like it) and higher, DTM is a bit too fast for my liking (3.6>=) and corpsemaker's a waste.

The math behind all of this is actually very simple. A lot of the weapon buffs work with the procs-per-minute system. This means the following (for Seal of Command):

- Procs per minute for calculation of proc chance: 7
- which means 1 proc per 60/7 seconds
- which means for a weapon speed of 4.00 seconds a proc chance of 4/(60/7)=47% per weapon swing.

This calculation is done for every weapon speed UP FRONT, meaning before speed altering buffs or haste or whatsoever. On average when actually swinging the weapon, you will get about 7 procs per minute still, no matter the speed.

BUT since Seal of Command gives 70% of normal weapon damage in holy damage and since the normal damage of slow weapons is higher than the normal damage of fast weapons with the same dps, this will amount in 7 procs of more damage each, meaning quite some more damage with slow weapons than with fast weapons.

There is your advantage for using the Pacifier. When you add speeding effects or even better the Reckoning (which you best NOT pick by the way) talent this will amount to largely more damage.

Short: use the Pacifier. /smile

the slower the better. the only downside to this mantra is "miss". slow misses, dodges, parries hurt alot. but 3.6 -> 4.0 bigger hits make up for the extra swing time.
