Hi! I've currently got a 30 mage with frost spec, but specced and geared for single target dps. So I'm wondering, when's a good level to start AoEing and how effective is it by then? I've heard some people say mid 30's because of Go'Shek Farm..any other opinions? Also, should I gear differently for aoe than the gear I currently have? Best time is post mount, IMO. You'll coincidentally have Ice Barrier to protect you on pulls.
Yup.. it can be done before 40, but it's just so much better with mount and ice barrier.
Get ~42-43 and start grinding on the murlocs in... ehm xD... the area where stoneard is in? Oh yea sump of sorrows. Those rock :P

Can be done from 26 upwards, I'd suggest waiting for your mount and ice barrier to start though, you'll die a LOT when you're just getting started.
I'll go with all of your tips..kinda :P Tried it from 26 which kinda sucked but I got myself to 28 before I hated the spot, xp/hour and all so now I'm 30 with frostspec, and oh my god I love my crits. 58 frostspelldmg, maxcrit so far 355, and all crits are 320+....LOVELY!
I started AOE grinding way before 40, though it was a lot more complicated. It also depends on the faction, horde have better AOE grinding spots before 40, then alliance.
I AoE grinded at 35~ at arathi highlands on the orc farm area. Then practice with mount/ice barrier there as well at level 40 to get the feel of it.

I tried it at lvl 37 at go'sheck farm which is amazing I thought no need for a mount.
I mana shield and then gather instead of running into everyone which will kill you fast just run and use rank 1 arcane explosion to gather them close run in circles till they're together and FN blink blizz 2 times and CoC it will be very good till 40 then you can head to that Duswallow Marsh on murlocs.
