DW Leveling Gear?Follow

#1 Sep 12 2007 at 1:23 PM Rating: Decent
Ive been looking around and i cant seem to find any decent 1h to dual wield in the 40s/50s. The only slow 1h weapons are all MH only and all the OH ones are fast. Are there any good weapons to DW while leveling up or should i just go with a 2h?

Just go to the item search and look for 1 hand axes or maces around your level with speed 2.6 or slower.

This is a very real problem. There are very few off/one hand weapons that are slow, particularly in the pre-bc items, this is because only a shaman would want a slow off-hand and pre bc we couldn't dual wield anyway...

Unfortunately you may have to settle for a green off-hand until Blizz decides to improve our itemisation (if ever).

Thanks for the replies, thats what i thought. Like i said i had already looked around and couldnt seem to find any.

One more question, do you think it would be better to just use a slow green oh or a 2h weapon in that case?

Heavens Light and Wirt's Third Leg

Both with crusader enchants lasted me until 60 when i replaced both with Fist Of Reckoning on both hands at 61

Wirt's is good, looks crap though.

As far as whether you should use a green offhand or a 2 hander I say the green offhand, the consistancy of your damage will far outweigh the slightly lower damage output from using a green as long as you have a good main hand.

Wouldnt Wirt's eat up MH WF procs though? Its 2.3 speed.

Yeah, you kinda have to settle for less-than-optimal weps, but it still works okay. I'm currently DW-ing Ripsaw and Mug O' Hurt on my 45 Shammy.

You are always goingt to get OH procs sometimes on your shammy. But when i had them for 20 levels i noticed that from 40 to 60 my off hand was missing at the right time to allow for heavens light to get the WF. The speed difference and procs of WF are all math, even though the hidden timer is up there is no garantee that the swing of the OH is going to proc the WF chance on Hit.

Bad part was that i had those almost all the way through the "Different ranks of WF" time before they disabled that bug.

After parusing wowhead i have found a better replacement for Wirt's Third Leg

Stonevault Bonebreaker one-hand mace that drops randomly out of Uldaman BoE so you might find it on the AH req lv 37 attack speed is 2.70, same as heavens light

I'm having this problem too. Currently, at level 42 I've got 2 Goblin Nutcracker of the Monkey (25 DPS per) equipped for the Dual Wield. Using the Shamulator, this puts me out at about 126 DPS. I'm currently 0/3 in Dual Wield Spec, so by level 45 I'll have 3/3 which will put me up to about 136 for a gain of about 10 DPS. (Those wondering why I don't have points in DWS already, I go instancing with guildies a lot and have put points into Guardian and Enhancing Totems)

The problem is, the last few levels I've been using Bonebiter (2H 38.8 DPS). Shamulator estimates it as putting out around 165 DPS.

So I'm realizing I may have jumped into Dual Wield too soon with not enough talent put into it and not the best weapons.

There aren't any good 1h alternatives on AH, and I have a friend who could craft The Shatterer (MH 31.7 DPS), which could potentially push my DPS up to 138. But I'd have to find another really nice off hand to put the DPS anywhere near Bonebiter, and I'll need those points in Dual Wield Spec before I can make the most of it in any case.

So, long story short... I guess I'm back to using Bonebiter. I like the consistency of Dual Wielding, and it seems some DPS is ultimately wasted whenever I hit a mob for overkill damage, plus it seems like my Stormstrike won't be used to its maximum effect anymore. :Sigh: ... I was so looking forward to Dual Wield.

EDIT - With Heaven's Light and Wirt's Third Leg, along with those 3 points in Dual Wield Spec, Shamulator estimates I'd have 158 DPS. Still a reduction in damage from Bonebiter, albeit an acceptable one.

You really cant compare a 2h to DW for PVE with just numbers though. You are looking for two one handers that have a high top end to produce alot of DPS that is sustained. 2h are big and bulky and slow lol. Heavens Light and Stonevault Bonebreaker should be a significant pair that should last awhile.

+hit is really rare pre-lvl 55ish.
the only bit i can think of right now is the setbonus from the scarlet set at lvl 40ish...

And my shaman is currently duel wielding Heavens light MH and Wirt OH.

The only problem with this is that our DPS comes largely from WF, and with the slow speed of a 2-hander if we don't get procs our DPS bottoms out, while as with dual-wield our sustained dps is much more steady.

The other problem with 2 handers for PvE is that it is very spiky burst damage meaning it is far more likely to pull aggro. This means dead Shaman. This means no dps whatsoever.
