I am working on my first Mage now, lvl 57 right now so I'm close to OL. I have never requested a price for my ports, and won't charge anything if someone asks nicely. On the other hand when I'm looking for a port, while on one of my other characters, what I typically do, and I have been commented on it a few times, is I will go and buy the Rune of Teleportation, then start looking for a Mage in the same city as myself. I always say basically the same thing, "Can I buy a port to <insert city here> please.". If they are kind enough to do it, then I will always open the trade window and put in a 2G tip, (yes to anywhere), and I will also put in then rune and hit trade. I find it makes the Mage happy, and if I was to ask again, they have never had a problem porting me again. I find it helps to keep Mages happy and at the same time, all it cost them was about 1 minute of their time and some mana to make 2G. And by the way I never charge friends, guildies, and party members.
