On my warrior I have a large assortment of gems on his gear. I use the correct colors in order to get bonuses. I would say the stats I focus most on are stamina, strength, and hit rating. I'm sitting at 736 stamina (11.7k hp), 358 str, 490 def (I keep it there or slightly higher), and 61 hit rating. The hit rating help me miss less, and I feel the strength helps me hit harder and generate more threat.

Now, I had a well geared warrior suggest that I replace all my gems with solid stars of elune, disregarding the set bonuses, just stack that stam. I am starting to tank Kara a little and am wondering what would be the most beneficial to me. What do you fellow tanks think? Keep it how it is or stack that stam?

It completely depends on the socket bonus. If it's any form of avoidance rating you should defo try to match it. If it's defense, and you'd like to get 490 rating without speccing Anticipation, or just want the freedom to change small parts of your gear without loosing crittability, it should also be matched. Also, of course, +stam socket bonuses should be matched. +Block value as well, but not +block rating.

+crit and other things that affect your TPS should be matched. Although not +str, since it scales very badly with +block value. Also, for sockets, get +agi rather than +str if you encounter a red socket. The +dodge is worth alot more than the +AP.

Thanks for the input, the numbers always boggle me a bit. How about the hit rating? Is it something I should pursue? Or am I better off with some agi/avoidance on my yellow sockets?

You aim with hit rating is +136 (+8.6%). You are however, as you say, better off with agi/avoidance. Mainly because it's not realistic to get alot of hit without sacrifizing other stats at early stages. When you've cleared kara and start on the 25 mans you can start to seriously go for +hit. It's at this point where you should have 490 defense with only gear (and maybe the odd socket, but not too much).

I used to tank kara and did a similar thing, stacked avoidance [+def/stam, +dodge, +agi/stam]

kara tanking was fine for me, then when we moved to gruuls lair, it was obvious that i needed a larger health pool, so i resocketed a few of my items for pure stam [since with anticipation i still had 490 def] and did a few instance runs to favor more stam gear for the pieces i haven't found purplez for yet.

there is [or at least was] a huge discussion about this in the elitist jerks forums, the summary of which was the following -- at kara or less, go for avoidance, after that, socket pure 12 [and now 15 if possible] stam gems in all kara pieces for the future.
