Does the type of dmg on wands matter? Would I be able to take advantage of a shadow dmg wand over anything else, or is it just go for best dps wand(not talking about wands with stats, leveling wands).

Shadow damage is nice, as it's effected by both Shadowform and Shadow Weaving. I don't think it will ever make a *huge* difference, though.

Well, we're spoiled for choice really given that both The Black Stalk and Tirisfal Wand of Ascendency are shadow damage based and both easily obtainable. I can't be entirely sure, but I believe wand shadow damage is also affected by curse of shadows meaning that even if you're low on mana, or if you're simply trying to dump some excess aggro you can still do some pretty decent wand damage.

Thanks folks. One more question, if I have a shadow wand, if I use VE and VT, will I get those effects?

My highest wand hit was 700 damage, so i wouldn't say it's low. And i didn't even have the best wand...

only caveat I've had is when fighting something immune or heavily resistant to a type of damage. My fire mage was fighting some water elementals very resistant to fire (and immune to frost), and had a fire wand :(. But a mage can use arcane. in a priests case they'd have to use holy. I'm not sure what is resistant to holy damage. I like to have a wand that isn't my main school, but I usually just pick up the wand with highest dps.

Imo, go for highest Dps/stats. The rest doesnt matter too much unless you constantly wand..

I do like the wand from Heroic UB though. (lvl 70 epic wand)

I'd still say go with a shadow wand if your shadow tho.

Edit: The only way to get around stuff being immune to your wand is carry one of each type.

Well, he *is* referring to leveling, where straight DPS would be more important, with shadow having a slight favor. Shadow doesn't really start pulling ahead until Outlands, I would guess.
Wanding in a raid setting with shadow wand = awesome. CoS, Weaving, Shadowform, and crits together make wand damage insane :P (note: also fun for terrorizing lowbies).

I usually carry around with me 2 wands. My main one and one other from another school. I found that not many are immune to Arcane so I try to make sure at least one of them is Arcane.

I agree with the last poster. It's usually a good idea to carry around 2 different wands. You'll need it when you hit the elementals.

if your priest is a healer, then you might want to have 1 want for solo and 1 wand for party (green with +31healing/2mp5 = the best until... BT)

I always have 2 wands, and I have a macro on my toolbar to switch between them quickly:

#show Shoot
/equip My Preferred Wand
/equip Wand from Another School

(#show Shoot makes the button show the icon of the currently equipped wand.)

If you are level 70, get the latest arena reward wand. Easy and top-of-the-line.

While I'm not doubting this, it seems completelt backwards to me. It would SEEM, to me, that water elementals SHOULD be immune to fire and particularly sensitive to frost. Just my opinion.

when you reach outlands there's a mob called unstable voidwalker. (or something voidwalker) equip a non shadow damage wand. shoot it one time then pound on it with shadow. if not you're fighting something with 50+% resistance to shadow.

Wand of the Forgotten Star for pure wand DPS and improving my spell hit & crit 186-346 Shadow DamageSpeed 1.50 (177.3 damage per second) Durability: 75 / 75
Requires Level 70
Equip: Improves spell hit rating by 11
Equip: Improves spell critical strike rating by 14
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 23.

I have the Mechano-wand of Shadow Wrath for +22 Shadow damage, but it's obsolete after getting this one. I use my wands for farming and in raids when I want to conserve mana. There are any number of boss fights where I can toss my dots on the boss and use the wand to keep DPS'ing for a few tics, just to add to my longevity. I have just under 1,000 +shadow damage (unbuffed) right now, so my regen is good thru DPS, so it's not often necessary. I just find that situationally, it's very nice to have the option.

I'm thinking the same thing... gratz to you for getting a in a guild that lets you run TK with that little +dmg >.> Nothing outside of Kara and I've broken 1.2k unbuffed; my typical group/buffs push me to over 1460.

With the new heroics wand coming out, with a lock buddy you can break 1k crits O.o Time to go ***** with lowbies...

Or you can start off attacking with a holy spell and then go into your normal shadow attacks.

you cant use holy spells in shadow form and it costs more mana than i would use in a fight to change to shadowform so the wand would be a more viable option.

i think he means to stay out of shadowform (the whole time) so you can smite as your first spell.

excellent tip Addermine. now i can stay in shadowform while farming Enchant Cloak - Greater Shadow Resistance from the Voidshriekers in Netherstorm.
