Which pants to use?Follow

Greetings everyone. I just recently picked up WoW a few weeks ago and am enjoying it greatly.

I'm still a bit of a newb to a lot of things, but I've been doing very successfully so far in my exping/questing using my fire-specced gnomish mage.

I recently acquired some leg gear that gives +20 to fire spell damage as its only stat. Here is my current armory: http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Dark+Iron&n=Freyjan

I've been contemplating switching out my current legs (which give a nice boost to both stam/int) for these +20 fire damage legs. I don't have much trouble in surviving, and was wondering who would use the +damage legs and who would stick with my current armor.

I'm still getting familiar with the ins and outs of the game, and would appreciate some opinions. Thanks a bunch!

I will say that it is mostly up to you. I preferred to stick with gear that had stam/int until later when I can get gear that has both, then again I PvPed a decent amount when I leveled so the extra health was good to have.

Use them both, when you are out questing/grinding throw on the plus damage ones, but if you are going to PvP then I would throw on the sta/int ones.

Thanks for the responses.

I haven't done much PvP yet (aside from killing random Horde that try and ruin my day -_-), but I would definitely use the stam/int for that.

I think I will try putting on the +20dam pants when I get off work today and give them a whirl. I suppose my crit rate would drop a bit, but I imagine the increased damage on every shot would offset this greatly.

While I'm on the subject of +damage, how exactly does that stat apply? I recall reading that the bonus involves something like (casting time/3.5)*100, which gives a percentage that applies to the bonus?

So for instance, for a fireball that has 3s casting time, the bonus would be (3/3.5)= 85.71% of the bonus applied? So that spell, assuming in this case +20 fire damage from the pants in question, would actually get a 20*(.8571)=17.142 damage boost per shot?

Insight welcome for the newb in training!
