High(ish) Level KitFollow

#1 Aug 24 2007 at 5:22 AM Rating: Decent
I am lv 70 tank and got some pretty unfriendly abuse from a PUG the other day.

My Kit is nearly all 67 - 70 blue (no epics). I also have a couple of low - mid level blues and a green 70 belt and shield. For some time i have been focusing on getting my DEF as high as possible and all of the kit that is less than say 68 blue is high on DEF.

What total Def should I be aiming for before it is a diminishing return? it is currently 520 - have i gone over the top, or is there some way to go.

My tot health is 10 k - should I be looking to improve (i.e. by reducing my def bonus)

My Att Power is about 750, should I be looking to imp this (i.e. again by reducing my def bonus)

+332 defense rating will give you uncrittability at level 70.

10k HP is a very good start. You should never be below it in tanking gear at level 70. Try to get it up to, or above, 12k for heroic instancing. (11k will do fine too, but people expect you to have good gear for heroics, so this is merely to keep you from getting kicked).

Don't worry about your +AP. It'll go up along with your other stats as you improve your gear. Most tanks get 800-900 pre-kara, and those who get exceptional gear before kara (ie. mostly heroic epics) will be at 1k or a little above. Again, this stat isn't to worry about too much, just as your armour. They'll both go up when you get new tanking plate.

If I remember well Botanica and SL can give you very nice blue shields.
You can also get epic reputation shield http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=29176

there are 2 very decent shields from drops [one being from botanica like mentioned before] and another quest reward shield from a chain in SMV [which i personally like over either of the 2 instance shields because of the block value :p] although the sha'tar rep shield would probably be the best out of any by quite a bit.

and hey, don't hate on the green gear, i had green champion gloves [stam/str/def] for months! i tanked all of kara / gruuls in them, until FINALLY i got maidens gloves [and of course, the random pug instance my friend asks me to help in drops thatias(sp?) self correcting gauntlets after i spend 20+ runs trying to get them]

finding him wasn't that hard

get a new belt ... now. as well as rings, i'd advise you do TK instances, they drop a lot of nice tanking gear [esp rings... and a belt if i'm not mistaken] and gives you the rep you need to get pretty much the best shield you can get before nightbane.

also, don't focus on socket bonuses, after you get your 490 total defense, go for stam primarily. if its a one socketed item, put in stam/def IF it has a stam bonus, healers [and your raid group] will like you a lot more with a higher health pool later on =)

also, get revered with KoT [which isn't too hard to do] and get the tanking enchant on a helm, 90g isn't too much and the stats it adds are phenomenal :>
