Hey everyone,

My wife just picked up hunter and she has some questions. I, sadly, was unable to help her b/c I am new also and never have done hunter. Below are her questions. Thank you in advance for your help.

1. How does a person know what kind of food that their pet likes (and how to get to the screen to look)? The more specific question is, if it says it likes meat, how do you know what kind of meat?

2. Are certain pet better against certain mobs? Like FFXI bst. where your pet was more effective against one mob and weaker against a different mob.

Ok everyone, thanks for your help.

1. By default Shift+P will open up your pet screen. Or you could open your character screen and select the pet tab. Either way once at that screen in the top left corner there will be a green smily face. Mouse over it and it will list the food your pet eats.

2. Some pets will be more effect but not in a major way. Example: A turtle will be more effect if fighting warrior type mobs than say a Raptor because the turtle has more armor. However, the raptor would have the advantage against a caster type because he is an offensive pet to do more damage. The turtle being a defensive pet would do less damge killing the caster slower and therefore taking more spell damage. As im sure you know though in WoW you will find several types of mobs readily available for youre slaughter at any given location so running back to the stable master every time you encounter a new one to switch pets isnt very practical.

The inevitable question

Which pet should she use?

3. For general PvE use whichever pet's graphic strikes her fancy. While some pets have useful tricks such as a boar's charge or a Cat's dash In PvE you will not need to worry too much on this area for a long long time. In pvp there are some factors that give certain pets the edge over others but unless your wife is planning on doing some serious pvp I would recommend to still just use whichever pet's graphic appeals to her.

1 - Basically it depends on the actually pet you have, weather it be a bear, or cat or boar etc...
Meat is usually quite obivous, ie Boar meat for example but some pets eat more than others, ie raw fish, raw meat, fungus etc... so if you visit petopia: http://petopia.brashendeavors.net/ this will give you all you need to know about the pet you desire :d

2 - yes, basically, cats are DPS classed Pets (DPS - Damage Per Second) Boars are more armour based pets.

1) Open character screen, "C", and click on the pet tab, which only works if your pet is out, hover over the green smiley face in the upper left corner of the pet screen and it will tell you what your pet will eat. The descriptions are generic, so meat= any meat, mold= any mold, fish= any fish (fish are not meat) etc..

2) Pets in this game are not like pets in FFXI, in FFXI there was a big differenc in pets depending on what you are fighting because of the nature of the creature you had tamed and the creature you're fighting. In this game there is no such set of weaknesses as all damage from your pet is physical and only armor (and a few other things) determines how much damage your pet will do. Different pets have different base stats, based on pet family not on individual animals (meaning all cats, all boars, all crawlers, all bears, all wolves etc.. will have the same stats given the same set of circumstances (lvl, loyalty level, etc..))

For more information on pets go to petopia.brashendeavors.net/ and read up, theres a lot of information there, everything you would need to know to figure out which pet you would like to use.

One other thing I might add; please do not ask "What is the best pet," because you will probably only get sarcastic comments that won't help out as well as look like a noob. Also, the answer to that question when taken seriously is not easily answered, but the BEST answer for what the best pet is the pet that you like the most, aesthetically and performance wise, go with what you like, if it works for you use it. Once you get a feel for how the pets work you can ask which pet does more damage, or which is a better tank or whatnot, but until you have some experience in the pet area don't worry too much about all the details.

Seafood meat (like clams) isn't considered "meat" by the pet (though it does count as fish, I believe). Most meat-eating pets will eat pretty much anything that contains meat including many cooked dishes like strider stew and spider kabobs. Pets get the most happiness benefit from foods close to their level. If you watch your combat log and see that your pet is gaining 35 happiness per tick of feeding then the food is pretty much the right level. If the pet is gaining only 17 happiness per feeding tick then the food is a bit low and you will have to feed him more often (or do back-to-back feedings) to keep him as happy as possible.

If you're not sure about a food, try to feed it to the pet and you will get a message that your pet doesn't like that food if it is the wrong type.

Go to Petopia to find the best information on what pets are available, what skins (colors) they come in, what they eat, what they can learn and other useful traits.
