well, I'm not exactly new to this forum, and I'm only here to chat with fellow rogues and give and take advice. what exactly is a rate up? and what does it do if you get rated up? I've been seeing it around lately but I'm not exactly sure how important it is and I thought I'd ask before I get so curious my head pops xD thx to anyone who doesn't call me a noob or something, just a simple question that the answer didn't really click on

Noob, rate down! Just kidding...

As far as I understand it, the rating system is supposed to show appreciation of part of this community for some posts and thus for their posters. It works as follows: posts can be rated up or rated down if they are considered good or bad (you can see for instance that your post is currently on "Good", which means that at least one person has rated it up). The ratings of the posts of one poster are then taken into consideration to establish a more global rating for the poster. This is reflected as a numeric average (used to show on the profiles, but I can't see them right now, maybe it is not visible anymore) and various ranges correspond to various titles associated to corresponding colors. Here are the number I think are accurate:

Excellent = 5.0
Good = 4.0
Decent = 3.0
Default = 2.0
Awful = 1.0

Karma below 3 = user. Posts are in orange.
Karma between 3.01 and 3.65 = scholar. Posts are in light blue.
Karma between 3.66 and 4.34 = sage. Posts are in green.
Karma between 4.35 and 5 = guru. Posts are in red.
Administrators posts are in maroon.

One last important bit: you can rate people up or down only... if you've got a rank yourself (scholar or more). Some might wonder how the first person got rated, kinda like the question of whether the egg or the chicken was there first... hehe... :)

ok thx for the info...and imo I think the egg came first :P so, from what you're saying, to get rated up you'd have to do something that gets the blues or higher to rate you up? ok I'm starting to get it now. thx again, wish I could rate you up ;)

Another important thing to note is that every time you post it takes your current karma and basically rates you twice with that current karma.

I.E. last time I checked I was at 3.11, meaning that I've made ~1100 posts at 3.11 karma, meaning that I've been rated 2200 times as 3.11.

Which is why when I tell people to go ahead and rate me down, I mean it. 2600 posts at 3.00+ karma means that they have very little chance in moving my karma unless they camp me for the next year. Smiley: tongue

Hm...that confused me a little. So, since I have 126 posts right now, and lets just say my karma is at 2.65 or something, I'd be rated 252 times as 2.65? If that's the case then...if someone were still orange by the time they had 3000 posts, it would take a looong time for them to become blue, right? Anyway, thx for the heads up Theophany
