Resilience....is it important?Follow

Hi All,

A friend of mine who plays a feral druid has been telling me that if i want to continue playing my prot paladin and tank in high end instance (e.g SSC and above)I should consider having high resilience as well.

His explanation is that resilience helps in mitigation damage as well as reduces the damage taken from spells.

From what I know resilience is only for PvP to reduce critical hits. Is resilience important in PvE? Does it help reduce spell damage from mobs?

I dunno... I think having high enough resil to make a difference you'd have to sacrifice too much other stuff.

I'm pretty sure Resilience is something you can pretty much ignore in PvE. Could be wrong, though.

resilience in pve is very useless. sure, its nice if you have it as a DPS/OT on your DPS gear, because it will make you crit immune and you can still DPS decently well. but for tanks, you want +def. resilience is half-wasted in a tanking sense, because you want to have around 220+ resil in order to be crit immune to a raid boss. but the other effect of that resilience, the crit dmg reduction, wont play a part in any fight, because youre crit immune. hence, half the stat value of resilience is wasted. in other words, youll get more bang for your buck out of +def.

+def also increases dodge, parry, and block rates, while resilience does not, which is another bonus of defense over resil.

If you have problems reaching crit immune status with just +def, then by all means add some resillience. As quor stated however, +def is better then resillience when tanking.

It's not realy hard to get the 490 defense to be PvE crit immune at lvl 70. I'm only in blues and greens and I'm crit immune, so I wouldnt waste my time looking for resillience.

Thanks all for your reply. Sorry for not clarifying somethings in the beginning. With my current gear, my defence is 530 but from what my friend has been telling me,resilience reduces magic damage too. He says that i still need resilience to reduce magic damage taken from mobs.

I think it's gonna affect DoTs, but I've never heard of it affecting direct magic damage.

NPC-cast spells cannot crit, resilience does nothing against non-DoT magical damage in PvE.

I was reading the WoW PTR forum a day or so ago and ran across a post that was complaining about the lack of Defense on Druid tier 6. I wish I could find the thread again, but there was some talk about Druids wanting to stack some Resilience to tank with because they only need 415 Defense to reach uncrittable status. That probably has to do with why your Druid friend told you to get soem Resilience cause for them it's not a bad idea, but for Paly/Warrior tanks, it's useless.

I'd dispute this analysis. If the choice is between stacking 65 defense and 3% crit chance reduction through resilience, even for druids defense remains massively more desirable, as aside from providing uncrittability it will also add to their chance to get missed and to dodge. Even when you can't become uncrushable, more avoidance is better on the healer's mana.

Personally, I dispute it too :) I just wanted to shed some light if I could on why this Druid may have said that.
