I spent the last couple of days leveling my 64 horde hunter to 66 so that I could learn all the pet skills he’ll need. Then I want out and tamed Spot

as my 3rd pet. My new pet has gone from level 35 to level 38 and is loyalty level two. I’ve been trying to come up with a new name for him, but thus far the only name I’ve come up with is Barkly. Yes, it’s corny, but is it too corny? Or can someone come up with a better name for a brown woulf that barks when you click on him?

All suggestions are welcome and appreciated. Well, maybe not all suggestions. I expect there are some really silly suggestions out there. And those would be less welcome than the really good suggestions. But then the really good suggestions might not look as good without the really silly suggestions to compare them too. So lets just go with the all suggestions are welcome idea. Yeah, that’ll work.

Edit:
Dohh! I just noticed I had the wrong link in here. I hate it when a copy and paste goes bad.

Well, you did tame him because of the thread I named. So how about, you name him after me? That's it! Call him Arthas! Then, wherever you go, you'll be reminded about me, and how my post lead you to this wolf.

I'm so brillant!

Another thing: You can always name him tops. It's spot by a different name. The name is still spot, but it's not =P. Tops is Spot spelled backwards.

I still like Arthas better...

Thanks for the suggestions. And that’s an interesting link. I didn’t realize there were so many ways of crying wolf.

The wolf formerly known as Spot is now level 45 and loyalty level five. I’ve been killing level 58-59 buzzards and orcs in Hellfire Peninsula. I now have about five stacks of Buzzard Bites and several stacks of cloth. I know the leveling will slow down the closer he gets to my level, but I’m very happy with getting ten levels in one day.

If I can decide on a good name, Vanyal will have three pets I’m very happy with:
1) The bright red cat he’s level with since level 10 - Sunspark
2) A red carrion bird that’s about ten levels below him - Poltra
3) And the little brown wolf mascot I stole from under the nose of the alliance – ummm… what’s his name

Since a wolf is a dog, name him Buttsniffer. or Howlie (play on the character from South Park, Towelie, the technologically advanced AI "smart-towel" that malfunctioned and only liked to smoke marijuana).

Here's some others off the top of my head.

Lickmyself
Dawg
Wolflundgren

That's all I can think of.

Cletus?
Curtis?
Malone?
Wolfy?
Knowles?
Growler?
RingPiece?

All names are good. I prefer funny names ratehr than Sensable ones, hense why my Cat is called MyMateDave... Everyone has a mate called dave, or know a dave, seems funny to most people and i like it.

i would call him gimmo, simply because thats how my real dog is called :)

I’m kind of weird. Okay, I’m a lot weird but that’s beside the point. I have to choose a pet name that feels right to me. I’ve replaced pets before because I gave them names that I later didn’t think fit them.

I wanted a cutesy sounding name for my pink tallstrider so I finally chose Sweetpea.

I wanted a silly name for my oh so sinister looking carrion bird, so I named her Poltra after the giant bird in a couple of the Jimmy Neutron cartoon episodes.

Sometimes the perfect name will just pop into my head. That’s how I ended up with a pet spider named Splat.

Sometimes I’ll name my pets after characters in books. As soon as Blizzard introduced green warpstalkers into the game I knew I had to tame one and name it Gleep after the little green dragon in Robert Lynn Asprin’s Myth books. And I named my bright red cat Sunspark after a shape changing fire elemental in Door Into Fire by Diane Duane. Oddly enough, if a name is too well known I don’t like to use it. For example, though I like the character, it was my favorite cartoon as a child, I’d never name a pet ScoobyDoo.

Basically I make it hard on myself and agonize over most of my pet names. So I really do appreciate everyone’s suggestions. Hopefully you'll have a bit of fun posting them and maybe one of them will be the perfect fit for my new little wolf pup.

Name him Perrin. Not too many that will do the Wolf - Goldeneyes connection.

Name him "Sir not appearing in this film". :-)

Do you REALLY want to spend tons of time levelling your wolf? There are level 65 wolves with the same skin in Blade's Edge Mountains.

Shideater (since the game won't let you spell it the real way)
Anklebiter
LegHumper
MyLegsBF
Doggystyle

I could go on, but I think you get my point

I didn’t know the reference, so I Googled the name. I’ve not read the Wheel of Time books. I think I started the first one once, but I couldn’t get into it. But the synopsis I read of Perrin t'Bashere Aybara sounded interesting. I especially like the sound of his connection with wolves. I may have to give that series another try.

Now that made me laugh. If I could name a character that I would. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is one of the best movies ever made.

But they don’t bark. Besides, I’ve found that I appreciate my pets more if I’ve had to spend a lot of time to get them. My pup is level 49 now. I need to decide on a name so I can christen him when he reaches level 50.

Wolf naming update:

While there are a few more serious names I’m considering, I’m also thinking of naming my wolf Snuffles.

For those who don’t recognize the name, which I expect to be just about everyone:

TV Acres wrote:
Snuffles - Brown hound dog who loved doggie treats seen on the cartoon series QUICK DRAW MCGRAW/CBS/1959. Snuffles was called into action when equine marshal Quick Draw McGraw was on the trail of a bad guy. But before Snuffles would use his "sniffing" abilities to track down the criminals, he first had to be fed a special doggie-biskit treat. Pointing to his mouth, Snuffles directed Quick Draw to feed him. When Snuffles swallowed his doggie treat, he began to joyfully swoon with delight (voiced by Daws Butler), hug himself, levitate into mid-air and then slowly return to earth as he concluded his orgasmic eating frenzy. In general, if Snuffles didn't receive a treat, he refused to do his tracking duties. So, Quick Draw made certain that he kept doggie treats in his ******* of weapons. But sometimes, the supply ran low and that's when Snuffles showed his semi-loyalty to his job.

Does that remind anyone else of hunters having to keep a large supply of pet food on hand? I thought it might be fun to create an emote something to the effect of, “Vanyal feeds Snuffles a special doggie-biscuit treat.” I could then use that emote each time I fed my wolf. Or if I could figure out a way to make a macro that would do both, all the better.

So, am I completely out of my mind?

Honestly, I'm hurt, I really am. After how I lead you to the beautiful wolf, you spit on my idea, then laugh at me. I honestly expected better from you Calabar, I never knew you could be so cruel. After all I've done, instead of thanking me, you insult me.

Here's an idea, if you're like me and read nerdy fantasy novels, you probally read the books "Eragon". And no, the movie didn't make me read it, a friend of mine recommended it to me long before the movie, and I enjoyed it.
I'm not going to say name him Eragon, no, he's more of a Warrior/Paladin.
Instead, why not name him Roaran. The name is taken from "Roran". It's not the same because I like it unique, but Roran always reminded me of a hunter type.

Roaran... genious! Oh and don't pay attention to the sig, it's not because I want the pet to be named after me... why do you think of that?

And Snuffles? I'm sorry, but I ROFLMSAOed, Not saying that's not a good name, in fact, it could work.

This might be a bit pretentious, but I always look up names in other languages. I named my ghost saber Kiruka (shortened from Nkiruka) which means "the future is bright" or "the best is yet to come" in Igbo. I thought it was an optimistic, albeit somewhat maudlin, name for a ghost. My wolf, who is one of those all-around pets, is named Odyma. It means "everything is alright."

I also have a rogue named Banabali, a shortening of the phrase "death in the night." There's also an undead warlock named for the Maori goddess of the underworld, her name translates to "great lady of darkness" but I don't remember how I spelled it.

Anyway, most of my names mean something to me, but just look like ordinary fantasy names to most.

I've told Rayne's story many times, but here goes but I promise it'll be short.

I USED to have a sister in law who's gaming name was Rayne. Long story short, she ran up my brother's credit, used all his money (paychecks from the army) to buy things she didn't need (IE: a swimming pool she never inflated). I stayed with her at my bro's suggestion b/c they were having money trouble (before we knew why they were having trouble) and helped with rent... choas ensued...

So now, all my pet are named Rayne... she's forever my bit*h.

lol I completely forgot I tamed this thing. got bored of it in a day. had no intention of levelling it 35 levels. still in stables. had to get rid of bangalash for him. no bigge, as every hunter has that cat. And I like to stand apart.

oh and being unoriginal, I named him spot.

Sun worshipping dog launchers! You face The Tick! And his dog, Speak!

After an extremely long and challenging deliberation, I finally named my pet last night. I named my wolf, the only wolf in game that barks:

Speak

I’m a big fan of The Tick cartoons, so naming my wolf after a character in that show is fun. And since my pet actually does “talk,” naming him Speak seemed the ideal choice. Speak is level 53 now. He still has a ways to go before he’ll be a functional pet, but it’s been a fun journey. And every time I click on him by mistake and he barks it makes me smile.

Awesome, I think the name means more when you choose it yourself especially when you name it after a character in a show or a movie you grew up with or just a cool name you thought of. I named my pet Shir'khan after the tiger in the jungle book, even though King B is not orange with black stripes it's still a cool name and a good movie, I'm 23 and it's one of the ones in my all time favorites.
