How do i beat a priestFollow

Guys hy i'm new to this class and i want to know how you can beat a priest.pls tell me:)
First off, you have to post your spec before we can help you. Second off, you have to tell us what level you are so we know what powers you have to work with.
i have this same question, i have a 42 BE fire mage

my buddy has a 40 shadow priest and its a pretty even fight, the winner usually has like 50hp left, and its pretty much back and forth on who wins. any help would be awesome

you should really look into +damage gear...
since u dont have tailoring youll probably be forced to buy off the AH
but by the time my mage was 42 i had hypnotic dagger and go do you mage quests to get a nice offhand
as for the rest of the gear you should look into the red mageweave pants it has nice +dmg and the dreamweave "set" (gloves, chest, head) you wont use the head piece till 45 but its still an awesome "Set" to have at your level

and from the above poster, you cant get robe of power its a bop and he/she has mining/skining
i do really suggest getting tailoring tho its very useful leveling and towards the end game and enchanting but i found it easier to just take a couple hours or so to level it when u go back to get ur epic mount
as for dueling the priest and you being a blood elf you can toy with him a bit..
remember that mana tap DOES in fact steal some mana from your target which becomes useful to a mana eating spriest..
the problem you're gonna mostly have is dot damage but if he uses mb or mf make sure you counterspell that and then begin casting something
and remember that your arcane torment is more or less a cheapy version of counterspell so remember to use that (it also can give u some mana :D)
it would be easier if u were frost spec to just ice block out of the dot and or silence but it is still possible as a fire mage and its not that hard.

hmm. No idea why it is so important to beat another class in dueling, especially at a low level.
@ Addramelech I didn't care about getting all blues when I was leveling... know why? Because I was leveling and would replace them all within 5 levels anyway. The illusionary rod is fine for leveling. This is unless you plan on twinking for the 49 bracket or something then I would recommend dropping a prof and picking up tailoring to get some nice damage on you, but for the most part just keep leveling, a duel doesn't raelly matter at all.
To make it simple, don't worry about +dmg gear until you are in your 50s at the earliest, it really only comes to matter in outlands when it is showered on you and when it becomes quite necessary for raiding/etc.

correct me if i'm wrong... but + damage gear maxes out your damage/mana ratio, making you more efficent with your mana and spells so that you can nuke less and kill faster....
in conclusion... +dmg gear rox. i'm not really twinked that hard and i have +123 dmg with +133 frost. I calculated that you can have upwards of +200 dmg gear at lvl 40 with enchants and what not. that is a pretty beefy firebolt....
then again, i'm frost mage. either way, +dmg gear rocks.

if its 1 vs 1 and you get imp arc missle you can simply beta him by spamming imp arc missle :)
Mage dps is superior to priest, abuse it.
And dont PvP without imp arc missle tbh, its very good vs locks and priests.
Had an SP guildy that got all the "imthe pwnz0r" got my relativly poorly equipped (he kara and t4, me pre herioc greens and blues) online and beat him 3 duels in a row by using ony arc missles he shut up after that :P

Thanks for all the replies, and regarding the 1st answer, yes i do have Hypnotic blade and some +dmg off-hand, can think of the name. I always have them equipped i was just messing around yesterday and put the rod on. i think i'm at like +21 dmg, no enchants cause i'm just going to replace the gear anyways.
so i've gathered through everything, poly/frostbolt/poly(to negate most of his PW:Shield)/pyro/fireblast/CoC/then burn him down from there.
