My profile

Ok so I am having some serious trouble when it comes to 5man. I seem to be the last person on the damage meters other than the priest. What i normaly do is put on the three DoT spells on each mob the tank is fighting, starting with the one he is actualy damaging.

I normaly have my imp out or succy. and will toss out shadowbots when i have time. Check out my stats on the link. any advice would be great. Is it my talents, gear, or just the way I play?

you have 400hp more than my lock, and im lucky if I get the 10th spot on WSG(out of alli + horde) .

lock is not one of the great classes at low levels ,60+ it becomes good, imo get WSg gear and try to dps well, or level up,to at least the 49 cap for deathcoil.

Well, your talents aren't too bad. On trash we tend to not do so great on the damage meters though. Check it on bosses only, that's where our DoTs shine.

I would drop Imp CoA if I were you. It's a personal choice though. The way CoA works all the damage is backloaded, therefore, so is the bonus. Unless CoA is always running it's full course, it's almost a waste of talents. On bosses in instances is the only place it is really really useful IMO.

Emp. Corr is not really useful until after 40 when you start seeing a lot more +spell dam gear available. You don't have any, so until you do, that is also pretty much wasted talents.

Picking up Nightfall would definately help your damage, especially on bosses. If you DoT, Tap and Drain, while Draining you should get Nightfall procs, Instant SBs will definately add to your DPS. Maxing out Fel Concentration will help your soloing, but since your more interested in doing more damage in Instances, you may want to keep your points in Imp CoA though. In a couple more levels when you pick up Siphon Life, that will add a little more damage for you.

As for BGs, there's a lot of twinks in the 20-29 bracket, they're pretty hard to contend with, it gets better in the 30-39 bracket. Just stick it out until then, and things start getting better as you get more spells.

Remeber you have Damage over Time spells.

That means if the targets die, before your dots run to full effect, your not getting your max dps rating. (especially with curse of agony, as the first ticks are negligable)
I personally would get rid of imp CoA tho, it really doesnt do much extra damage per tick, and the talent points can be put into other places.

you can also try doting main target, maybe one other, then hitting a shodow bolt etc on main target, to give a bit of a boost to your direct target damage.

Really you wont see your jump to the top in Dps tho until you get +spl gears and a bit farther into your talent tree.

Bosses are the time you shine, just make sure you let your CoA run its FULL COURSE, as the strongest ticks are its last.

like a couple others said, respec. get rid of imp CoA and pick up nightfall. you'd be surprised how often that 4% procs.. cuz that chance applies to every tick of corruption/drainlife.

also, ya might wanna make a conditional CoA macro that'll do amplify curse if it's ready. that ought to boost your damage a bit if you've been forgettin to do amplify.

other than that.. i'd just recommend you nail as many targets as you can with your instant casts.

Your build seems good,
This is what I would do:
Since you have imp CoA, and amp curse, Also points in drain life look at it this way: you spended 2 +1 +2 points of your 20 points in the Curse of agony talent.
In short fights < duration of CoA, you will not do high dps.
In longer fights > duration of CoA you should do like this:

CoA, Corruption, Immolate and drain life until shadowtance occur toss a bolt and keep draining, renew dot's when they runout, but never stop a cast to renew a dot. Meaning always do full duration of casts, drain life, 2.5sec shadowbolt cast and so on. And also never renew a dot that is still active. Wasting gloobal cooldown + casttime = time to dish damage.

A dot timer would be your thing to guid and assist you in this:

search the internet for a good addon, necrosis has some timers. And also help you keep track of shards and so on.

A problem that many warloks do is that they renew a dot before it's full duration, that is totoally useless thing to do.

you want to shine on trash in instanced, go destruction. imp sb, bane, devostation. But imo staying alive, aggromanagement and contstant dps > burst in all pve content. You are on the right track and learnign dot cycle and class knowledge will come to you

My battlegroup must suck if Lock's arent good low level PvPer's. Untwinked at 18-19 I was top damage and often KBs. The team won often enough and I rarely was lower than third or fourth, win or lose.

Since its prolly safe to say youre twinking (lol), then i suppose its worth it to get some better gear enchants... armor really is pretty pointless for a lock, and you have +armor on almost everything. go for Stam and spell damage if you have the gold

another thing (since, again, im assuming youre a twink and are focusing on PVP) is you have 2 wasted talent points in Improved Drain Soul.

okay, and one last thing, that im not too sure on (since im not too into pvp) is maybe you can also get rid of one (or both) of the talents in your life tap... the reason i find for that is most fights dont last too long... load up on mana pots.

So with better gear enchants and 3-4 extra talent points to place in diff slots, it might make a difference. my opinon is one more in Nightfall (cuz instant shadowbolts are great lol), and 2 or 3 in Demonic Embrace under the demon tree for the extra stamina.

I hope that helps some :)

Your talent build looks ok, but like the others say, you can drop imp COA in favor of nightfall.

I've got a lvl 29 lock myself, non-twink and with mostly green gear, and usually end up top 5 in BG's (that is, for both sides. Usually top 3 on my side). The only class that usually takes my spot in top damage is a well played hunter >.>

I use a bit of a 'different' build, check it out: http://wow.allakhazam.com/profile.html?2419423
