Destruction for Raiding?Follow

I have tried Destruction for Pvzp'ing for my WL set and I finally have it. Now on to 70. And do some raiding.

I figured I would have to respec to Affliction for raiding, and I did it. Raided Kara.

I was grouped with a Fire mage and some others. I checked my DMG meter and the Fire Mage was WAY ahead of me in dmg, even though he went oom sometimes. So I thought and maybe, I could go Destruction for raiding,eh? I was thinking I can stack Intellect, +spell crit, +spell dmg, and +mana per 5 sec. Mostly Int and +mana per 5 sec.

So is it possible? I see fire mages raiding alot and fire mages are = to destruction locks in raids mana wise, in my opinion.

hmm my lock is currently specced 28/33/00.

I dont hit the top of the dps list, but im usually in the top 3.

I dont draw aggro often (quick soulshatter if i do).

I have siphon life, shadow embrace, and nightfall, imp Bloodpact and h-stone,
so i feel the slight loss of dps vs. the easement of healers healing me, stam bonus and h-stone bonus to my group (raid) as a whole makes up for it.

I tried destruction out, but it seemed like i was alway having to hold back or draw aggro.

guess it also depends on your playstyle, /shrug

Did u check the DMG Meter of only boss fights or also trash fights? If you just checked out trash fights there's no surprise the mage is higher on the DMG Meter than you.

If you're going to raid Kara, your first concern should be your pools. 8k health and 6k mana are minimums if you want to go anywhere in there. If you don't have those, run heroics first.

If you're going to go destro your stats should be slanting toward damage and crit first (25-30% crit is top end, but 20% is going to be a minimum). INT is a crappy way to pick up crit and after you get a decent mana pool (probably around 7k, JenovaOmega would know better) you shouldn't be considering it as a real factor in gear selection unless the piece just has some overwhelming amount of it. +mp/5 is a joke. You shouldn't be getting it. It's just not worth the itemization cost.

Pre- decent HP/MP pools you're main stats should be Stam and Int. 10k shadow damage doesn't mean **** if you've only got 1k HP. You WILL be taking damage in raids.

After that, get spell hit. Until you've hit 202 spell hit (16% bonus) you're going to continue to get better damage from hit than from anything else.

After you're living through every/most fights and hitting with around 95-99% of your spells worry about spell crit until you're critting around 25% (Devestation included). The reason I say this over spell power is because you'll find crit much harder to balance than power and in a destro spec they're almost equal once you get toward better gear.

At no point should you consider MP5 as a bonus on your gear. if anything you should be pissed that the item didn't have the budget spent better.

This advice, of course, is coming from an affliction lock. I'm not real clear on the min level of crit to make destro work, but I can't imagine it being much lower than 20%. I know for sure that 16% is too low. I tried. The problem is that destruction is much harder to balance than affliction.

i'm raiding dest. 0/21/40 (shadow). I've also done the 17/0/44 + other variations. +hit is the most important factor. unlike afliction locks, we have no talents for hit. we also use more destruction spells so resists are a big issue. both on trash and bosses.
for trash aim for 5-6% +hit. this is easily doable (around 74 +hit) for bosses just get as much as you can without loosing out on the other stats to much.

after hit, IMO the next most important factor is getting 20% crit rate (25% including devestation). this is the 'sweet spot' for destruction crit rates as in theory you'll be keeping imp.SB proc up near constantly.

after all this, +damage is then what you need to focus on while trying to keep your other stats the same / increasing. also unlike afliction. your hp and mana are also very important. running around with 25% crit, 1000 +damage, 200 +hit and 4k hp and mana isn't worth while at all, try to get at least 8k mana as destruction is the most mana inefficient dps we have.
the choice of +damage over +shadow or +fire is also important as in the end, anything up to 30% of your damage will be done by the other spell school, IMO the best gear set you can get pre-T4 is the mana-etched due to the 2set bonus, (the 4set being good too, but the 2set is the best part). the decent crit rate, +damage and decent balance of stats. if you were to go for any crafted items. the girdle of ruination is worth while (waist) and the spellstrike set + mana-etched = great hit, crit, damage with mediocure stats.

POST EDIT

don't ever get mana/5. you're a warlock so LIFETAP. we don't need mana/5. it's a wasted stat for us and no offence but any warlock with it deserves a guild kick.
